Chapter 1

The lush grass sparkled in the field, as dew accumulated on my hands and feet. It was one of those perfect weather days where sun was out but there was still a light drizzle to keep you cool. I smiled and took it all in. I love nature, I love everything about it, well I loved it. I loved the feeling of dancing in the rain, the feeling of sitting around a camp fire on a cold night, and the feeling of a cool breeze hitting your face on a hot summer day. I even loved the feeling of getting my hands dirty and working with dirt. It made me feel so alive, so connected to something I didn't even understand. I loved it all, until that day, when it felt like I lost everything that mattered most to me, so much so, that I gave up on loving everything else I had left.

I was playing outside with our family friend's son and I was rolling around in the grass, letting the sun's rays warm my cheeks and feeling the cool dry breeze run through my hair. The day quickly changed when after an hour or so, the weather changed and the sky turned a dark grey color.

"Isabella, come inside it's about to rain, tell Luke to come in too," my mom said, her sweet honey colored eyes looking at me.

"Come on Lukey, mommy doesn't want us to get wet," I said, turning to run inside. The rain came shortly after, so I grabbed my hot chocolate and watched the raindrops hit and slide down the windows.

"Mommy, can I go play in the rain?" I asked, my piercing eyes begging her. My mom always told me my eyes were special. It was always the first thing people noticed about me. They were rimmed by a dark, dark purple-greyish line, then filled mostly with blue and green with a inner hazel rim that held slight tints of red-orange.

"No, I don't want you catching a cold," she said, sternly. I wasn't one to easily give up though so I kept begging her and each time she would shake her naturally fiery auburn hair and tell me, "No." So I finally settled on just watching rain drops fall.

"Bellbell, I'm bored," complained Luke from behind me. Turning to face him, I put my finger to my lips to shush him, before I returned to watching the rain fall.

"Luke, why don't we drive you home. Your mother just called, and a storm is coming and she would prefer it if you were with her," my mom started, "Come on, Isa, you can join us, we have to go pick up you father's medicine afterwards,"

"Okie dokie artichokie," I giggled, as I ran in to the car. I sat quietly the entire car ride, just staring out the window. Amazed by how the raindrops would fall diagonally across the window.

"Bye Lukey!" I said as he ran to his mommy. She smiled mouthing a, "Thank You," before waving to us as we pulled out of their driveway.

Before I knew it I saw a big black car coming straight at us. It hit the other side of the car, nearest the passenger seat where my mom was.

"Isa!" my mom screamed as our car spun around and flipped over on its back. The accident is a blur to me, since I blacked out for most of it. I only remember seeing something light on fire, and a pair of black business shoes walk towards us as I was enveloped in blackness. I woke up just as the paramedics came and put us all away in ambulances. I was awake the entire ride, but I had no idea what was going on. They kept asking me a bunch of questions but all I could answer was, "Where's Mommy? Where's Daddy?"

After we arrived at the hospital, they checked to make sure I was okay. I saw them roll my Dad away on a stretcher, as I saw my Mom crying in the waiting room.

"Mommy, Where is daddy going?" I cried. I ran up to her pulling on her dress.

"Isa, honey, oh thank god your okay. Daddy is going in to surgery so he can feel better okay?"  she said to me trying to calm me down. I remember how she tucked a lock of hair behind my ear, while her honey eyes were filled with fear. The motion was comforting, yet I could tell something wasn't right. Her eyes were puffy, not from the accident, but because she had obviously been crying.
