Chapter 4
I quickly went into the locker rooms, and took a shower. It felt good, as the hot water hit my cold, freezing chlorine-smelling body. After I got out, I quickly got dressed. I reapplied my light makeup on and put some Victoria Secret Bombshell perfume. My wet hair had turned cold from the chilly winter air. Well their goes my straightened hair, I thought. Oh well, I threw my hair up in a messy bun, gathered my things together and walked out of the locker rooms.
"I'm going to need you to do something different for me," Jason's voice seemed cold and blank. I peeked around the corner to see Jason intensely staring at Luke. Luke's face was blank and he aimlessly stared back at Jason. "I took care of your job, now I'm going to need you to back off. Forget your feelings for her. Forget them and back off." He continued.
"No," Luke whispered softly.
"Forget them and back off!" Jason urged on. A weird feeling bubbled inside of me, as I took a step out of my hiding place. Jason's head snapped up.
"Hey guys," I said.
"Hey, Isa," they said casually.
"So what's this all about?" I asked, curiously.
"Nothing much. I knew Luke has been bothering you lately, so I was just telling him that he needs to back off and stop bothering you," he said, proudly.
"Thanks, Jason! That's so sweet! It's okay though, Luke cleared things with me, we’re good now. But wait…I don't remember mentioning anything like that to you…" I wondered.
"Um…yeah. Luke was telling me earlier that he has been giving you a hard time lately," he replied.
"Oh ok. Thanks!" I told Jason. Luke had been silently standing here this whole time. Something was off about him.
"Are you okay, Luke?" I said turning to him.
"Huh? Oh yeah, I'm fine. I got to go, I'll talk to you guys later," Luke said, as he began walking off. As he passed me, even in the shadows I saw his eyes. They were cloudy once again. I pushed the weird feeling inside of me away. He's fine. I told myself.
"Is he okay?" I asked Jason, once he was gone.
"Yeah, I think so. Why?" he asked.
"I don't know. He seemed a bit off. I wonder if everything is okay at home," I wondered.
"Yeah, maybe. I hope everything is okay. Hey you want to go get some lunch now?"
"Oh yeah! Hey it's lunchtime! Sure, let's go!" I said, putting a hand on my grumbling stomach. We both got our food and joined Emi when we reached the tables.
"Ugh! This school day feels way to long!" I complained, angrily munching my curly fries.
"Well, Isa, I'm glad you came because there is something I need to ask you," began Jason. Emi's eyes grew wide and my mouth was stuffed full of curly fries.
"Will you go to the dance with me?" he asked sweetly. I quickly swallowed my curly fries.
"I'm sorry Jason. I would love to, but I already promised Emi, we would be in the date auction. But feel free to buy me!" I winked. Then everyone started laughing at me and I realized what I had just said. "Oops, I mean. Well, you know. You ...understand," I said, with my face flushing.
