Chief Kang glanced around and took a seat on the couch facing the door.
"Would you like anything to drink?" asked Victoria.
"No, I'm good," Chief Kang said. "Sit down."Victoria sat down across from him, "I suppose this must be about last night?"
Chief Kang nodded then folded his hands together, "I'm aware that you must know about the stalker Donghae believes is following you around."
Victoria's eyes didn't move an inch from his face.
"The man that suddenly crept up on you may be him and he may be the one who tampered with your brakes, but there's also the possibility that he may not be. Last year there were frequent reports about women who got attacked but then that man that attacked them suddenly went quiet. If he isn't your stalker then he may be looking for a new victim." Chief Kang continued then when he noticed Victoria's expression change a bit he added, "You must know where I'm going."
"It's obvious." Victoria replied plainly.
"I just want to inform you that I'll have a few guys assigned around this area to keep a watch on you. You might not like it but it will be best for you in case you get attacked by surprise," Chief Kang told, "if there's anything you can reach me at this number."
Victoria took the name card from him and glanced at it.
"I will be putting Donghae on a short vacation, so during this time I don't want him to do any work but rest. I'll have him resume his investigations after a couple of weeks," Chief Kang informed.
"I understand, thank you chief," Victoria said. "I will call you if anything comes up."
Chief Kang nodded then got up, "Keep your doors locked and watch out for yourself."Hoping that Victoria would do as he asked he walked out from her home and toward his car. Now he had other things to handle before returning home.
/////
The rest of the week Victoria did not return to the hospital. When Donghae was allowed to eat solid food Victoria was in her office going through the assignments she would hand out. When Victoria officially returned to teach Donghae was in his hospital bed reading the comic book for the up-teenth time.
Victoria felt at ease and was excited to be back at her second day of teaching. Classes progressed well and she had excellent students. For a moment she had forgotten everything else until she walked out from the Halsey science building."Excuse me," a voice called out.
Victoria stopped in her steps and turned around to find a familiar face. Actually, it was a face Victoria had least wanted to see. The young girl stood before her with an aqua bag hooked across her shoulder. Victoria had forgotten that the young girl attended Seoul University.
"Hi," Victoria greeted planning to start off on a good note and end on a good note.
Hopefully, their conversation wouldn't last long. However, the stare from Hee Sun told Victoria something different.
"You...what's your name again?" Hee Sun questioned.
"Victoria Song." she simply answered. "I forgot you attend university now. You must have lots to do, well...I'll see you around." Victoria smiled at her then turned around preparing to walk off as quick as possible but she suddenly felt the young girl clasp her arm from behind stopping her. Victoria turned around with eyes wide, but Hee Sun glared back which left her feeling uncertain about what to do.
"You...and oppa...what are you two?" she asked still not letting go of her.
"What?" Victoria wasn't sure if she'd heard right.
"What is oppa to you?" Hee Sun quickly restated her question.
"Oppa?" Victoria repeated.
Hee Sun's glare became more heavy as if she were very agitated, "Donghae oppa, Donghae, Lee Donghae oppa!"
That was right. This girl always addressed him that way. Victoria glanced down at Hee Sun's hold of her arm then reverted her eyes back to the girl.
"Please let go of me," Victoria said calmly.Hee Sun opened her mouth then closed it and finally let go of her. "Then answer me."
"I don't know what you want to know." Victoria stared back at her.
Hee Sun continued glaring at her, "Don't treat me like that and don't treat oppa like that. I know him better than you."
"And so what?" Victoria raised one of her eyebrows. "Personally and honestly I could care less about who he is to you and who you are to him. While you're here in Seoul, focus on your studies."
"I said don't treat him like that."
"Like what?" For a moment Victoria began wondering why she was even standing there talking to this freshman. Then the answer came to her easily, it was because she didn't want this girl to think she could step all over her however and whenever she wanted.
"Like you can push him around however you want. Oppa deserves much better than that even if he came to Seoul for you," Hee Sun said.
"What?" Victoria asked.
"You heard me. Oppa's so blind but it's only because he doesn't know," Hee Sun continued going on talking about whatever she was talking about.
Victoria frowned and slightly turned away. Seoul? He same to Seoul for her? What nonsense was Hee Sun spouting this time?
"I don't know what you're talking about," Victoria suddenly interrupted the young girl's speech turning back to her, "you're madly in love with him aren't you?"
Hee Sun stared back at her turning quiet with bitter hate and Victoria felt surprised when she saw tears sparkle in her eyes. Did she say something wrong? Victoria began to feel a bit of guilt grow within her."If you are then stop worrying about me and worry about yourself," Victoria went on, "if you keep running around accusing others of stealing your oppa then you're just really childish."
"You don't know," Hee Sun said taking a step forward so that they were nearly face to face, "you don't know. What he is to me, how important he is, what place he takes in my life. You won't understand and you won't care. You can make fun of me all you want, but haven't you heard?" The girl's stare was so intense Victoria found it hard to turn away. "That love makes one childish? Because love is childish."
Her voice was so dead serious and held such a depressing tone with her shaking voice that Victoria chose not to say anything. If she were to say anything she didn't want her words to beat the girl mentally and make her cry in front of her.
"I hope oppa quickly realizes his mistake and dumps you," Hee Sun muttered and quickly walked pass Victoria with a small shove from the shoulder.
Victoria turned around with mouth gaped open. Just who did that little girl think she was dealing with? Victoria stared at her back and wondered how in the world did she become so high and mighty? Still, Victoria found that Hee Sun's deep eyes penetrated her thoughts haunting her. Was she that in love with Donghae? If she were why was she coming to her instead of going straight to him?
When Victoria entered the building she stopped outside of her office once she immediately felt a presence. The door was unlocked and left an inch wide as if someone were waiting for her. Wondering why she pushed the door opened and turned the lights on to see Heechul sitting in a relaxed position on the chair waiting for her with a patient smile.
"Afternoon," he greeted. "Are you done for the day?"
"I still have some things to do, but actually yes I am done with classes for the day," Victoria replied feeling a sudden of relief fly over her as she made her way around the desk. "But what brings you here today?"
"I just wanted to drop by. Are you free right now?"
"You have something planned?" Victoria asked turning on her computer.
Heechul watched as she turned away from him focusing her attention on the computer screen, "Lets go out for lunch."
"I already had lunch," Victoria replied still not turning around.
"Then dinner?"
"Sorry," Victoria apologized, "I'm planning to turn in early tonight. How about some other time?"
"Sounds good," Heechul lied hiding his disappointment.Victoria had always been busy to turn to look at him and he'd tried to understand every time and ended up hurting every time. However, he still wanted to keep chasing her.
"When I drop in again lets go out," Heechul told. "I'll be going now."
"Bye," Victoria said turning to him with a smile.
Heechul returned the smile then headed out.
Victoria sighed and grabbed one of her binders going through a list of things she wanted to put down on the quiz.
/////Donghae found himself pacing through the hospital wards randomly. Staying alone in his room made him too bored he actually did feel like he was being kept in an asylum. He walked pass the pregnancy ward where children played with toys and husbands and wives talked quietly. Once again he stopped by the window where he saw rows and rows of babies sleeping peacefully in their separate cubicles. Moments later he found himself walking around outside stopping in front of the bench watching some boys play basketball. He immediately recalled that Victoria almost got her head knocked off while sitting on the bench dazing off. He hadn't seen her at all since last week.
"Where have you disappeared to now?" he wondered turning to look toward the lot.
Donghae retreated to his room and plopped down onto his bed heaving a sigh. If Chief Kang didn't allow him to go back to work what would he do?
/////
Hee Sun stopped and turned back to watch Victoria walk away. Anger chilled her bones and the painful throb of her heart was overwhelming. She didn't want to believe it, that her oppa, that her Donghae oppa, had feelings for someone else. She'd practically spent her whole life chasing after this boy who became a man because she was so sure, she was so sure she'd be able to turn him around to look at her. And the things he did for her did make her feel as if she succeeded but when she grabbed onto him he'd slide away from her. If she had one wish, one wish that would come true, she'd wish for him to belong to her forever.
"Hee Sun ah." a voice called her.
Hee Sun turned around to see a tall girl walk up to her, "Unni."
"Hey, we're going out tonight, you wanna tag along?"
"Where?"
Kim In Sook just smiled, "Meet me in front of the dorm at 11, ok?"
"Then...are you not going to morning class?" Hee Sun questioned.
"Not planning on it, but hey I heard that a handsome guy took you out for lunch last week? I didn't know you were this naughty," In Sook smirked nudging Hee Sun.
"Last week? Ah...that was my brother visiting me from Incheon." Hee Sun clarified.
"Psh...whatever give me his phone number sometime ok? If you're going meet me at 11 sharp."
