————//————"Nico! Hunny! Come here!" Mom called me to go downstairs, which I did.
"Hm?" I asked once I faced her in the kitchen.
"Come eat some pizza, hun." She pointed towards the broken old wooden table in the corner. He sat in the end, mom sat in the middle, and I'd have to sit in front of him.
"Thanks.." I murmured as I sat down, hoping to avoid eye contact.
A brand new box of pizza laid on the table, waiting to be devoured.
I grabbed a slice, earning a kick from him under the table.
'Of course, he won't let me eat.' I told myself.
"So, how was your day hunny? I haven't seen you in days." I looked up to him. He had a hard expression on his face as if to say 'Don't you dare tell her.'
"It's been fine. I've been staying with a friend." I spit out the first excuse that came to mind. Technically, it wasn't an excuse.
"Oh, okay, baby." How could she be so oblivious to what her own husband did to her son? I shook the thought away and reached for another slice of pizza, but it earned me another, very hard and painful kick under the table. I looked up at him. He shook his head, 'no.'
I sighed, starving, and got up.
"You're not going to eat anymore?" I shook my head as her voice filled the small kitchen.
"Eat some more." Her tone was usually always happy with me, just like it was now.
"I'm not really hungry, thank you." With those words, I escaped to my room and fell into a deep sleep.
~~~
Birds were chirping, the sun was shining, and the smell of pancakes and eggs filled the entire house, causing me to get up.
I'm only kidding. The dark black curtains in my room didn't let any bit of sun in, there weren't any birds around here, and most certainly, there would never be any pancakes in this house.
I sat up in my bed, as still as possible. No sounds. At an instant, I was standing in the shower, looking like a clown on roller skates by how fast I was moving trying to put soap on. I washed it off immediately and stepped out of the shower.
I threw on my black ripped jeans, black hoodie, and all black converse. I also threw on a few rubber band bracelets on my wrist, grabbed my phone, the bit of money I had left, my keys and quietly made my way downstairs.
Once I reached the last step of the stairs, I saw him on the couch. He was snoring, meaning he was asleep.
I slowly unlocked the door and headed out, locking it behind me.
Breaking into a run, I mentally hoorayed. I made it out without being hit. Fuck yes!
I ran and ran, not caring about being out of breath. Not caring about where I was going. I just wanted to be away from that house.
I finally stopped. My chest ached. I could barely breathe. Everything hurt, but it didn't matter because I was out of the house.
I finally got my breathing under control as I looked around. I was at the park in downtown.
I walked towards a huge willow tree in the corner and sat down under it. Kids were running around everywhere, smiling and laughing.
"Please, just leave me alone.." A female's whispered voice was heard a few feet away from me.
"You little freak!" Another voice was heard. A male one this time.
I turned to the screaming and there was a girl. She had tan skin and dark black hair and bits of blonde, a bit longer than her shoulders. She was about 5'0 feet tall and about 13 being pushed around by some older kids.
"I'm sorry.." She begged for mercy as they kept pushing her.
I stood up, walking over to them.
"Leave her the fuck alone." They all faced me before backing up.
"We're so-sorry!" The kids cried before running away. No one has ever been scared of me.
"Thank you!" She cried out, hugging me. I tensed up which she noticed.
"S-s-sorry.." She murmed.
"It's okay. What's your name?" I asked.
"Dayanara." (Dah-yah-nah-rah) She said in an accent that sounded Spanish.
"Hi, Daya. I'm Nico." She smiled at the nickname and looked down.
"I just moved here. Thought I'd go for a walk when this happened." She spoke softly.
"Yeah. I know how it feels." I shook my head and led her to where I sat.
"You do?" She seemed surprised.
"Yeah. I'm the schools punching bag." I admitted.
"Oh. I'm sorry." I shrugged at her comment, dropping the subject.
"What school will you go to?" I questioned her.
"Sunnyville High. Monday is my first day as a Freshman here." She smiled at me. She most definitely didn't look like a high schooler.
"How old are you..?" I couldn't help but ask.
"14. I look 12, I know." She chuckled, but stopped once I didn't laugh.
"Damn. Okay then." I simply stated before laying my head back onto the tree.
"You?" She asked, staring dead at me. It's quite uncomfortable if I'm being honest.
"17. Senior at Sunnyville High." I murmured out.
"17! You don't like 17!" She exclaimed, laughing a bit.
"I get that a lot. I guess neither of us look our age." She laughed at my comment and I would have laughed too, if only I laughed.
"Hey.. Do you think I could get your number?" I looked into her eyes, causing her to go beet red.
"In c-c-case I need help with the sch-school or something!" She stuttered, still red.
"Sure." I shrugged, handing her my phone. She put in her number, which I called so she can save mine.
"Thanks!" Her soft voice chirped. I nodded, wanting to enjoy the silence.
"I should get going. Bye Nico! Thanks again!" She exclaimed before running off.
Interesting character.
I stood at my locker, putting away any unnecessary books I had.
"Nico!" A voice yelled out at the end of the hall. It was Daya. She was running towards me at full speed. I was quite happy to see her if I had to be honest.
She leaped into my arms, wrapping her legs around my waist and her arms around my neck. I saw it coming and she seemed like the hugger type so I tried not to tense up.
"Hey, Daya." If I was normal, I'd have a huge smile plastered on my face. I just simply wasn't normal, but so far, she didn't seem to mind.
Daya was still wrapped around me, hugging me tightly.
My eyes met with the beautiful 50 shades of blue eyes. He stood a few feet from me. He just stared at me, a small hint of hurt in his expression.
There we stood, Will staring at Daya and I.
