Diana sat with her friends Elsa, Cara and Hannah as they celebrated another birthday. The four girls looked as if they were meant to be in a bar's promo with how they perfectly sat. They were seated on a slightly raised platform, taking photos with one another and drinking shots. The four girls lied with their smiles and battered their lashes at the boys who thought they had a chance.
Diana knew her attitude was faker than usual; the way she posed for the photos and flirted with the boys was simply an act to make it appear that she was okay. Her friends overlooked the white lies that she was hiding behind. Diana put on the biggest show of her life. It is not like they didn't know something was up. If they paid attention, they would know that her smiles didn't quite reach the corner of her eyes. You see plenty of twenty-something-year-olds hiding how they all felt, and Cara, Elsa and Hannah all had their issues, so Diana breaking down silently every other day wasn't something they would pick up on.
However, the more alcohol she drank, her intention to go home alone decreased. She found herself on a sofa surrounded by three boys, each trying to outdo the one before. She knew she was simply a bet to them; she had heard the conversation as they believed she had been too drunk. She, however, continued to let the boys fall for her as they took turns to buy her more and more drinks, increasing the blurriness of her vision.
When the clocks had passed three in the morning, Diana was at the bar getting a drink while the boys were grouped looking at her inappropriately. That is when Jack pulled her to the side before she could open her mouth to talk.
"Hey," she says, wrapping her arms around him. Over his shoulder, she could see Joseph and Nicholas and the rest of the crowd standing at a table throwing looks at her. They did their best to hide their eyes, but it was failing. "I have had so many free drinks. It is so great." She says, laughing a little bit. Jack tried to take her back to her friends, but Diana shook her head, pulling him back to where she stood.
"Diana." She wraps her arms around him, pulls herself close to him, and says the words.
"You should take me home." Jack is slightly concerned by her behaviour but agrees to her request and follows her out of the nightclub. He knew what his friends would think; he was a little younger than Tommy, so his friendship circle was both Tommy and his sister Diana. Jack, however, had always found himself a little bit of a floater when it came to the siblings, he knew they were there for him whenever he was broke or needed help, but they weren't exactly like family or anything like that.
