I stood there completely utterly shocked. Did he just say that he wants to go to the Halloween party with me? Does he have feelings for me? But we just met a few days ago? What's wrong with him? I need to stop asking myself these questions.

I see his face change in an instant, from warm to cold. "Nothing, just forget it."

"What? You need to explain this."

"Just drop it rocker chick." After those words I stay quiet and ignore him throughout the remaining class period.

What the fuck is his problem? Is he bipolar or something? (Not trying to offend bipolar people in any way.) First he says one thing then he says another. He has some damn issues to get under control.

I should just forget about what he said. But the harder I try to forget, the more his words replay in my head.

Snap out of it Jaylee and get a grip. He didn't mean those words, he's just trying to hurt you that's all. He's a player that plays with girls hearts as if they were toys.

I still haven't decided who to ask to go with me to the Halloween dance, because let's face it, no one is going to ask me so I have to step it up and be the man.

I've been thinking about asking Derek to go with me because he's been super sweet and kind to me these past couple of weeks, and I've known him for a long time. I just need to get the guts to actually ask him.

You know what? I'll just ask him to come over to my house after school so we can hang out and then i'll casually ask him.

The school day goes by faster than I thought it would. I finish putting my binder and things into my backpack and slip on my cozy hoodie as I walk to the front of the school. I look around for Derek and the guys. It takes me a while to spot them because they were mostly hidden behind the trees. I walk over to them without their consent. All of the guys are there, Derek, Casey, and Xavier except Nathan. I wonder where he went. I quietly walk up behind Derek and press my fingers to his sides, making him jump.

"Woah Jaylee!" He says, laughing.

"Hey." I laugh.

"Welcome to the dark side of the moon, what brings you here today? Finally got the courage to join us?"

"Umm, not yet." I say, picking at my fingers.

"Well you really need to tell everyone so you can hang with us freely because we need your jokes to lighten the mood around here."

"Someday.. but I don't know when."

"It needs to be soon though."

"Man, when she's ready she'll tell, just chill." Casey buts in.

"He's got a point." Xavier adds.

Derek exhales, "Alright, but Jaylee, I need to talk to you."

I look at him confused. "Okay?"

"Come." He motions me to follow him.

"What." I say.

"I wanted to tell you this sometime but i've never had the guts to do it, but I have to do it sooner or later." He pauses for a second before continuing.

"Jaylee, will you be my girlfriend?"

My backpack falls to the floor. Did he just ask me out? Well this is a surprise.

"I have to think about it." No wonder he was acting so sweet and concerned, wanting me to tell everyone about all this. He wants to make our relationship public and not a secret.

"Of course, take all the time you need, just don't tell the guys yet, until you decide."

"Okay, cool with me."

"Well we should get back."

"Umm my brother probably left because I took so long." I say while running my hands through my hair worriedly.

"I could take you since I have my license now." He shrugs, putting his hands in his pockets.

"Okay, I'll just text him that you're taking me home." I pull out my phone and quickly send a text to my brother saying that I'm getting a ride home.

He replied shortly after saying that it was cool and I should hurry up next time.

"Hey guys, I'm taking Jaylee home because her brother left her."

"Oooooh." Xavier winks at him, "Get some." I feel myself blush under their stare.

"Guys, we've always been alone together what's the problem."

"I don't know, you just seem different now." Xavier answers and Casey stays quiet.

"Pfft.. Let's go Derek." I say as I leave.

"See you guys tomorrow."

"The bar?" Casey answers.

"No, Rocky's Diner." Casey, Derek, and Xavier all raise their eyebrows, surprised.

"It's on me guys." I assure them, then I begin walking again, with Derek trailing behind me as we head to the school parking lot.

We get to his car after a bit and him, being a gentleman, opens my side of the door and waits patiently for me to get in.

The car engine roars to life shortly after I put my seatbelt on. He drives onto the road and I decide to ask him.

"Hey, I was wondering if you wanted to go to the Halloween party with me?"

"Is it because I asked you that and now you feel obligated that we go to this so called Halloween party?" That was deep.

"No, I was going to ask you before you asked me and I was caught off guard so I forgot to ask you until now."

"Oh, then I guess it's a yes. I will go to the Halloween party with you Jaylee." I feel relief wash over me and breath out a breath I didn't know that I was holding in.

"What are you planning to be?" He asks me.

"Um, I want to be a hippie." I shyly say.

"But I don't have my costume yet." I add.

"Oooh, how creative, I don't have a costume either. How about we drop your things off and head to the shops to look for some?"

"That would be great! I managed to get my homework completed in study hall so I'm free for the rest of the day."

"Fab!" he says, using my language.

We make it to Halloween Express in about 15 minutes, after dropping my things off at home and notifying Jessica that I would be out for the rest of the day.

"What are you thinking of being for Halloween?" I ask Derek as we enter the automatic open doors.

"I don't really know. Can you help me out?"

"Sure."

I set my leftover cash on my side table and take my shoes off. Derek and I decided to be Mario and Luigi for Halloween. I won Rock Paper Scissors and got to be Mario. That was a win win! Now the Halloween party is next Friday, almost a week away. I'm pretty excited to be honest. Halloween is the only thing I basically look forward to when it comes to autumn, besides warm sweaters and the leaves changing from the dark greens to the musky browns and golden oranges.

Tomorrow is the weekend and I can finally take a break from everything and clear my mind.
