The one thing Eva wanted more than anything was acceptance. Acceptance from her parents, her classmates, and most of all, Vince. Vince was Eva's best and only friend. They met when they were little children at the local playground, when Vince taunted her about her lopsided sandcastle. She then threw a small bucket of sand over his head and that's pretty much where it had all started. After weeks of horsing around on the playground, the two had developed a close friendship that lasted for nearly ten years.

Eva Farrow was a cute child, but as the years went by, puberty took its toll on her, and not in a very nice way. She became skinny, lanky, and awkward. Small red ugly bumps would appear in different areas of her face, particularly her forehead. Unlike many of the girls in her grade, she didn't develop curves in any of the right places. In fact, one could say she was as flat as a board. She was cursed with terrible eyesight and now wore thick, heavy frames on her nose that magnified her eyes twice their size. Her long chestnut hair was just a poof of gnarly frizz that she tried to keep in control with a tight ponytail.

Eva had never given her looks a second thought when she was a young tween, but that all changed when she entered high school and her best friend, Vincent Parker, came home from a summer spent in California with his family. He had come back bigger, tanner, and smoother than before. He no longer looked like a silly little boy, but rather a handsome young man. Eva had to tilt her head upward to talk to him now.

It brought him into a new light, and seeingVince swarmed by a bunch of other, much more attractive girls at school was alittle discomforting for Eva, especially since none of those girls would evergive her the time of day. They always scanned her up and down withdistaste, as if they couldn't comprehend why a guy like Vince would ever beseen with a thing like Eva. It upset her, but in the end, she was gladVince was still her best friend. Yet, she now found herself yearning forsomething more. Little did she know, Eva would soon obtain everythingshe wanted, but for a terrible price.
