Chapter Fifteen – Confessions.
Four hours later after much pacing and too many cups of coffee we were finally allowed to see Mason. His parents went in first back came out quickly mumbling something about being to distressed, I gave them sympathetic looks and walked in. Tubes snaked in and out of his body as he lay there, still and somewhat lifeless. His lips were blue but the constant beeping of the monitor assured me he was alive, again. I held his hand, scared that I was going to hurt him, “I’m so sorry,” I spat out through my tears, “This is all my fault, I was sleeping on your chest, maybe I hurt your heart.” I meant that in more way then one, I’d cheated on Mason and became unemployed, homeless and pregnant and he had to deal with it all. Now I have physically killed him, as well as emotionally. “It wasn’t your fault.” I turned around to the direction on the voice but there was no one there, only a letter.
I reluctantly let go on Masons hand and walk over to the letter. My name was written on the front in handwriting that was familiar but only when I opened the letter did I recognise it. Millie. I glanced over at Mason his heart monitor was still beeping, I still couldn’t believe he’d died in his own bed, I cried for joy when the paramedics revived him but I knew the road ahead was rocky. I looked down at the letter again, contemplating what it might be but I came up with no answers, there was only one was to find out. It started out the same as any other letter, the date at the top, it was yesterdays, my name at the beginning but then I read on;
I was in love with Oliver and he was in love with me. We had been going out for over four years and during that time you developed your crush on him. I didn’t want to hurt you so I never told you that he was with me, no one knew, except Gus.
Oliver didn’t like that you and Gus were getting closer, I don’t know whether it was because Gus knew or because Oliver didn’t want you with anybody else but he had to get rid of him. So Oliver abducted Gus and held him in his basement for a week. You then started getting close to Mason so Oliver killed Gus and planted him in the corridor for Mason to find and making him look guilty.
But then you went weird with Oliver and found Gus’s body so Oliver planned to kill you, thinking you would tell the police he killed Gus. But then his plan went wrong and he ended up dead, all thanks to you. That’s where I come in. Before Oliver went on his mission to murder you he told me what to do if things went wrong, as in if he got caught. I guess he didn’t think he would end up dead.
The plan was for me to poison Mason and I did that through his watermelon on his break yesterday, thanks to you and your little bundle of joy this went better than expected, it’s easy to poison someone when you serve them food – thanks for the job! It’s good poison, kicks in later so you don’t suspect a thing, and then it kills you, apparently numerous times.
As for me I’m off to hang myself, I can’t deal with murdering someone. Have fun in the hospital darling, don’t worry I don’t think you’ll be there long. Oh and before I forget, I’ve been watching you. I know you’ve seen me.
Long time hate, Millie.
