Chapter 1

Demented Reunion

The beads of sweat soaked my forehead as I strolled by the park in my neighborhood. Summers were usually pretty toasty but this one seemed especially hot. Still, I grew bored hanging in the house all day so I decided to take a walk. Mum did not mind as long as I arrived home before dark. I glanced at the sun, which hovered slightly higher than the tallest branches and determined I had just enough time to walk around the park and then I better head home.

I wiped the sweat off my head with my right hand. The glove I wore grew drenched from rubbing my forehead so much. I wanted to take it off but both Mum and Aunt Becky agreed I had to wear this white laced glove as long I as stayed in Little Winging. I suppose a hard bronzed finger would appear strange to muggle eyes. I removed the grove and looked down at it, recalling the horror of that night. This finger, along with my blood and one of my ribs, was used to bring Voldemort back. I wish I was able to stop it. Mum, needless to say, was horrified when she found out what happened to me at the graveyard. It took quite a bit of convincing on Aunt Becky's part to let me return to school for my fifth year. Honestly, I'm surprised she has not put bars on my window to keep me from leaving.

As I was looking down at my hand I continued to walk until I slammed right into someone. My glove fell out of my hand.

"Sorry," I said quickly, flinging my right hand behind my back, while my other grabbed the glove.

I looked up and saw a boy, who appeared to be around my age. He was about a head taller than me. Something about his eyes seemed familiar.

"It was my fault," he said, running his fingers through his short blonde hair. "I wasn't looking."

I smiled, looking down, while I shoved the grove back on my hand behind my back. He was being polite. I was definitely the one not looking.

"So what are you doing out here all by yourself?" he asked me. "Could be dangerous for a young girl like you. There are gangs and sort that hang out by the playground at night..." he briefly stuttered. "I can walk with you, you know, to protect you and stuff."

I looked up at him and chuckled. Clearly, this boy was coming onto me. A year ago, I would not have known it, but now, it has become much easier to see.

"I think I'll be alright," I said, still amused. "Believe it or not, I've dealt with gangs here before, used to be apart of one actually..."

Now, he took his turn to laugh. "No way... you? I don't believe it."

I shrugged, not particularly concerned whether he believed me or not. My eyes narrowed down as I saw a snake crawl right between my legs. The boy jumped back.
