"I'm so fucking bored," Michael said, as the fire continued to rage on in front of the group.
The moonlight was shinning through the tree limbs, causing ghostly shadows to project themselves across the forest floor as well as the surface of the lake. The wind was whipping around, strands of hair flying around the adolescent's faces. Each were attempting to stay warm underneath a blanket, the couples being respectfully together.
Michael and Kenz.
Ashton and Cameron.
Calum and Mack.
Luke and Caitlin.
The eight friends continued sitting in silence, watching the golden embers from the flames dance around in the air. The temperature was quickly dropping, as was their ability to keep their tired eyes open.
But this was their get away; this was their one night to forget about the world outside of the forest and just focus on being together. They had all been close since childhood. No one could keep track of the endless hours spent terrorizing the suburban neighborhood in which they lived. But now that they have graduated high school, they only had so much time before they would get sent off to college. Even though they had all agreed to take a semester off of school and start in the winter, they wanted to spend as much time with each other as possible. And this was the last weekend before distance would separate all of them until summer break.
"Well, what do you suggest we do then?" Calum asked.
Michael shrugged as he threw back one of the bottles of vodka they had brought along, sipping what he estimated to be a shot.
Ashton shifted in his seat beside Cameron, tightening his grip around her waist, "Do you even realize where we are?"
"Yeah. We're in the middle of fucking no where," Caitlin retorted as Luke chuckled, kissing his girlfriend on the side of her head.
"First of all, I did not ask for your attitude," Ashton started,"Second of all, while that is true, we happen to be at Lake Willow."
"I think we knew that coming out here Ashton," Mack replied, moving closer to Calum.
Ashton stared at her, his eyes wide in disbelief,"Do you not know the stories about this place!?"
"Of course we do Ash, we just don't believe them."
"Who said we don't believe them?" Luke questioned.
Kenz raised an eyebrow,"So are you saying you do?"
Luke shrugged, mumbling something under his breath as he pulled Caitlin closer to him.
The wind kept blowing around them, leaves being whisked around in the air. The sound of water lapping at the shore of the lake could harldy be heard over the loud rustling of the trees.
Lake Willow had always been a creepy place. But after that summer in 1967, things just got creepier.
"Do you guys remember the story?" Michael asked as he took another swig from the bottle, tossing it across to where Luke and Caitlin sat.
Cameron sighed, leaning further into Ashton,"Yeah, of course we do."
"Good. Because we're telling ghost stories."
