chapter 15

Early morning Dunston rode up to the palace gate with his six men. "Open the gates. I'm a friend of prince Kapa." He called out.

There was a brief pause then finally the gates opened up. Dunston rode in and stopped to wait for a guard to climb down and talk to him. "Who exactly are you?" The guard asked.

"I'm Dunston. I'm a friend of prince Kapa. Is he here?" He asked.

"I'm afraid I'm going to have to ask you to wait here, while I have someone go to the palace. It shouldn't take too long for you to get an answer though." The guard said.

"Well of course I'll wait." Dunston said.

It was about fifteen minutes when prince Kapa and Maverick came up to them. "Dunston I'm surprised to see you here. How did you survive, and how did you get away from my father?" Kapa asked.

Dunston slipped off the saddle and threw his arms around the prince. Then he gave Maverick a hug as well. "I'm glad I finally found you guys. It's a long story about how I got here, but I'll tell you all later. I haven't eaten for a while and I need a rest."

"Of course my friend. Come on I'll show you all where you can rest." Kapa said.

Dunston followed them up to the house, where Menju was waiting outside with Arjic. When they got up to them Maverick put his arm around Arjic and said, "it looks like more survived the king's tyranny than we thought big boy. You really don't have anything to fear."

Arjic stared at Dunston. Dunston wasn't comfortable around him. The guy seemed to be able to see through him, and he didn't like it. He wished he could just stab out the huge freaks eyes right now, but if he did that he would ruin everything. Arjic kissed Maverick on the cheek and said, "I hope I don't."

Prince Kapa put his arm around Menju and said, "let's all go back inside. These men need to rest, and I'm sure the girls would not only love to see that our friend is alive, but has escaped the king."

"So basically I had one of the king's corrupted men there to take the fall. Once the initial panic receded I gathered a few loyal followers if the prince and we took off." Dunston said after supper that night.

Everyone was impressed with his story except for Arjic. The guy kept watching Dunston, and it made him angry. Dunston had all of them eating out of his hands, but the brute didn't believe him. If he got word of his suspicion to the right person it could jeopardize everything. He couldn't wait for the opportunity to kill the judgemental bastard, and now it would be even more satisfying because Maverick liked him. That meant he could capture Maverick too and torture Arjic to death in front of him. His god really did favor him.

The next day some more people came to the gates. Men were ransacking the towns, and burning houses. Tristan ordered several of his men to suit up to go with him.

"I'll go with you Tristan. It could be some of my father's men, and if it is I want to see if I can find out what my father is planning." Prince Kapa said.

"I'm going too then." Maverick said.

"I'll come." Menju called out.

"No darling, it's safer here. Don't worry though, I'll be back soon and you'll have Arjic and the others to keep you company."

"I wanna go though."

"Darling you will only get in the way I'm afraid. You're not really trained in combat."

"Don't worry prince. I'll stay with you as well and keep you safe until he returns." Dunston said.

Menju was slightly comforted and he gave prince Kapa a kiss goodbye. Maverick kissed Arjic and said, "you better be ready for me tonight big boy. This is the first time I've spent any time away from you since we've been together really."
