Cassie was woken up by a glaring bright light coming from her "school"bag.
"What the heck?" She muttered, reaching for the flap. She pulled out the strange object from the night before, it's light about ten times brighter than it had been earlier. But the instant her hand came completely into contact with the glowy thing, the light blinked out of existence.
As she studied the object, she noticed some strange designs decorating the edges; they looked almost like some form of runes.
"What are you?" She wondered, tracing the runes with her fingertips.
ZAPP!!
Cassie yanked her hand back as an electric current raced up her arm. The object crashed to the floor, runes glowing. She stared at her own glowing hand, watching its light slowly fade away. She paused, trying to figure out if it did anything to her. Everything seemed fine.
Beep! Beep! Beep! Her alarm blared to life, startling her out of the trance. Shaking her head, she started getting ready for school; hoping that at least something today would be normal.

Jackie smiled. This new kid, Alex, was kind of funny, though he didn't seem to realize it. Like the way he'd frozen when she'd asked for his name; she didn't know if it was intentional, or something else. The bus stopped, and as the other students walked in, she lost her train of thought.
Cassie Rose. She'd been crushing on Cassie since the beginning of the year. As she boarded, Cassie shot her a quick smile, her long golden hair hanging past her shoulders, and her glasses glinting in the morning light. But, she seemed...distracted.
"Who's the new kid?" She asked, nodding her head towards Alex as she took her usual seat behind Jackie. With a small smile, Jackie introduced them.
"Cassie, Alex; Alex, Cassie"
"Umm, hi," he said nervously, watching Cassie as she gave him another slightly distracted smile.
"Nice to meet you! You new in town?"
"Um, sort of..."
"Cool! Did you get your schedule yet? We might have some classes together."
"Uhh, no?" He seemed to be getting more anxious by the second.
"Leave him alone Cass, it's his first day! You don't wanna scare him off," Jackie said with a roll of her eyes. "You'll probably have to stop by the office to pick it up right away," at his hopelessly confused look, she added, "first door on the right when you enter the building."
"Right, ok. Thanks." Alex said with a sheepish smile. With a loud thunk, the bus stopped.
"Well here we are," Cassie said, turning to Alex, a wicked grin spreading over her face. "Welcome, to hell."

Alex didn't know what to do. Hell? Who named this school? He thought anxiously, as the crowd behind him seemed to force him in the building.
"So, where exactly are you from?" Cassie asked. "English is your first language, right?"
Alex's eyes started to burn, as his new friends started asking harder and harder questions.
"What's up with the scars down your face?" Cassie asked, and the hallway seemed to get a little quieter, as if everyone was waiting for a response.
"Cassie! You can't just ask someone about their scars, it's considered rude in a lot of cultures." Jackie cut in before Alex could even think of an answer. His eyes burned, and he felt a single stinging tear drip down one of his scars. Jackie put a long arm around Alex, in an attempt to comfort him. "Look what you did. You made the boy cry."
