Cassie and Jackie led Alex from the janitors closet to the principal's office.
"Ok," she said nervously. "Now we just need to convince Principal Meyers to actually let you go to school here, no biggie."
"Um, that sounds like kind of a biggie to me," Jackie replied, just as nervous.
"Don't worry! I'll go in and talk to him; give him some sappy excuse, and he'll be sure to let him stay, at least as a charity case."
"Charity case?" Alex enquired, looking around. He looked like he was ready to bolt at the slightest disturbance.
"It just means he might let you stay out of pity; but, hey, if it works it works." Cassie said with an almost confident smile. "Alright, now, you two wait out here, while I go in and talk to Principal Meyers, then, when I have him convinced, you can work everything out!"
Her smile was so bright, it could've set the whole room ablaze.
"Oh, a-alright then," Jackie stammered, nervous again. And with that, Cassie calmly strode into the principal's office
————————
She entered the office, still smiling. "Hey Mr. Meyers!"
"Hello Cassie! How are you today? What brings you to my office?" He asked cheerily.
"Oh, well, this may be a little awkward, but I was wondering if my friend could start coming to school here," she started, feeling oddly calm
"I'm sorry?"
"Well, you see, he's homeless, and he lives in the local shelter, and I was wondering if you could enroll him here to get a proper education. Maybe that way he can make a living for himself with a graduate degree and all."
Mr. Meyers stared at her, contemplating. "Well Cassie," he began slowly, "I understand that you may want to help your friend, but, I don't think it's a very good idea to just enroll a new student in, solely because he's underprivileged.."
Cassie felt she should be upset at this, but she was still feeling that eerie calm that had taken over her. Before she knew it, she was standing right in front of her principal, looking him directly in the eye.
"You will let Alex join this school."
Principal Meyers blinked slowly; once, twice. "Of course," he responded monotonously. He then walked over to his desk and sat at his computer.
Stunned, Cassie hesitantly walked to the entrance and peeked her head out of the door. Quickly, she ushered Jackie and Alex into the room.
"Alright," Meyers said, still looking a little foggy. "Alex..."
"Reed," Jackie supplied, "Alex Reed."
"Alex Reed... alright, I'm printing your schedule right... now." He said, turning and smiling at Alex, who was watching the whole ordeal with a look of frightened curiosity. He hesitantly picked up the paper from the office printer.
"Good, now, off you go..." their principal waved them off as he went to work on his computer.
"How on earth did you do that??" Jackie asked with a look on her face similar to awe.
"Honestly, I have no idea..." Cassie said, a little shaken by the entire ordeal herself as the three of them walked out of the waiting room, and past a kid with dark hair and fair skin.

Alex couldn't take his eyes off this kid. For some reason, this kid drew Alex's attention. Why does he of all people at this school seem... different? Alex thought, as the other student flipped his hair.
