Chapter 2: Typhoon

It was a normal day for Wysteria and Jasmine. They had just gotten back to the orphanage after work. They hurried a bit more than usual because it looked like it was going to rain. Rain was an understatement. It was pouring. Luckily for Wysteria and Jasmine, it didn’t seem to be affecting the electricity or wifi at the moment, so they continued to watch anime. It was Friday night, so they could stay up as late as they wanted.

At around ten o’clock things took a turn for the worst. At first it was just the wifi acting up, then the lights went out, so the girls decided to play cards with a small candle to see by.

“The storm only seems to be getting worse.” Jasmine commented staring out the window of their bedroom.

“Yeah.” Wysteria said. She had been having weird feelings of dread deep in her stomach all day.

“What’s wrong, Sterie? You’ve been acting weird all day.” Jasmine asked.

“Oh. Have I? Don’t worry about it I’m fine.” Wysteria said quickly forcing a smile.

“Is it ‘That’ feeling again?” Jasmine asked looking Wysteria dead in the eyes. Wysteria nodded.

“It’s probably just because of the storm.” Wysteria reasoned, but deep inside she knew this was no ordinary storm………..

Later at about one in the morning……

The orphanage was in a bad way. The workers had gathered all the children at the orphanage into the main room, shut all the doors and blocked all the windows. There was a typhoon, a big one, really close by. The wind was howling and making the wall of the old building shake. The younger children were all huddled in the center of the room, while the older children sat around them to try and calm them down.

Then a huge clap of thunder shook the building even more. A crash was heard in the next room, followed by more crashes. A tree had fallen through the room in the next room. The support beams were now giving out.

“Quick! Everyone outside!”One of the workers yelled. They didn’t need to be told twice.

The older children shepherded the little ones to safety. Wysteria and Jasmine were checking to make sure no one was left inside the crumbling building. No one was. They headed back to the exit when another support beam gave way. It was headed straight for them.

For Wysteria the next few seconds seemed like minutes. She pushed Jasmine behind her and instinctively put her hands above her head in a defensive manner, but a bright green light shot out of her hands and disintegrated the support beam. Wysteria stood there with her hands still in the air, frozen with shock. Jasmine however needed no further invitation to get out. She grabbed Wysteria’s wrist and they ran out into the storm.

When they got outside no one was there.

“Did they leave us?!” Jasmine yelled furiously.

“They must have found some shelter.” Wysteria croaked out, still in shock and staring at her palms.

“That’s no excuse to leave us out in the typhoon with no idea where to go!” Jasmine ranted. When she had calmed down a little she looked down at Wysteria who had fallen to her knees still staring at her palms. “What was that back there?”

“I-I don’t know. I’ve never done that before.” Wysteria replied.

“Well whatever you did, it sure saved our butts.” Jasmine said helping Wysteria to her feet. They walked for a little ways looking for the rest of the people from the orphanage, but no they had no luck.

They past an alley with a few trash cans it. Then a hooded figure stepped out. They quickly turned around and gasped.  The figure was walking slowly towards them.
