Chapter 20: Rest and Training
She was momentarily dazed but regained her senses after the initial shock had passed. She gasped for air, but then discovered she didn’t need it. Not questioning it at the moment, she looked around frantically for Richard. She saw him falling deeper into the ocean, a trail of bubbles coming out of his agape mouth. Wysteria swam as fast as she could toward him, dodging falling rubble.
When she finally reached him, she slung his arm over her shoulder and swam towards the surface as fast as her legs could propel her. Wysteria’s head broke the surface of the water. She looked around. The shore was a long way off. They must have drifted after they fell. She could see Jonathan’s white hair moving frantically from side to side and a red dot pacing along the shore that was probably Rebane.
Wysteria swam as best she could toward the shore. It was hard considering she had to keep both hers and Richard’s heads above the waves. Finally, she felt sand under her feet. Jasmine, Jonathan, and Rebane had noticed her and were running to meet her. Wysteria dragged Richard onto the beach and gently laid him down on the sand. She used her water magic to remove the water from his lungs as best she could.
Richard’s eyes flew open, and he coughed up water. His breathing was shallow, but it was becoming normal with every breath he took. By this time Jasmine, Jonathan, and Rebane were at their side.
“Richard! Wysteria! Are you guys okay?!” Jasmine and Jonathan asked simultaneously.
“Don’t worry. I’m fine. What about you, Richard?” Wysteria asked turning her attention to Richard.
“Yeah...I’ll be fine.” Richard wheezed, still coughing every now and again.
“Let me see your head. You hit it on a rock while you were falling.” Wysteria said.
“Oh, is that what happened?” Richard asked groggily, leaning forward so Wysteria could examine the injury.
‘It’s a bit bloody and it will definitely swell, but it didn’t look too serious. Richard seemed a bit tired though….I hope he doesn’t have a concussion.’ Wysteria thought, while using her magic to heal Richard’s wound. “There, that’s about all I can do. It will probably swell a bit though.”
“Thank you.” Richard said staring straight into Wysteria’s eyes. His eyes telling her thank you for everything.
“Y-You’re welcome.” Wysteria said, blushing and turning her head, cursing herself for stuttering.
“Never do that again!” Jonathan said, tackling Wysteria into a hug.
“Don’t worry. I won’t.” Wysteria assured, hugging him back.
“You better not!” Jasmine said, joining the hug.
