Chapter 15: Injured or not, Malachi is Malachi
Wysteria awoke to sunlight streaming through her blanket. Unable to go back to sleep, she sat up and looked around. No one else was awake yet.
She quietly made her way over to where Malachi was sleeping to check on his wounds. Malachi’s face was scrunched up because of the pain. She flinched when she saw how black and blue his shoulder was becoming. She gently began to treat it again using her water magic. The strain on his face lessened and he seemed to be sleeping peacefully now.
“Good.” Wysteria whispered, sighing in relief.
Wysteria sat back down on her blanket. ‘How can they sleep when it’s broad daylight?’ She wondered, with an amused smile on her face.
Soon enough, the others roused themselves, except for Malachi who was still out cold. They ate breakfast and did a little training like normal, but it felt weird without Malachi supervising them. Richard took the place of Malachi for the time being, as he was the most experienced out of all of them, being skilled in both magic and swordsmanship.
Jasmine was experimenting how much the Earth Emerald increased her abilities. She found that if she swung the sword fast enough, a shock wave went through the ground . She sent Jonathan backpedalling, but soon it caught up with him and he tripped, luckily he was uninjured because the majority of the attack had hit the ground in front of his feet.
“Whoa..” was all Jonathan could say. Jasmine jogged over stifling her laughter.
“Are you okay, Jonathan?” She asked, giggling silently.
“Yeah, It takes more than that to hurt me.” Jonathan said proudly, puffing out his chest. This only caused Jasmine to laugh harder. Then Jonathan started cracking up as well. While this was going on Richard and Wysteria watched with amused grins.
“Those two are so alike.” Wysteria commented.
“Yep, they sure are.” Richard agreed. Wysteria glanced sideways at him. The scene from last night before Carl attacked playing in her head causing her to blush and turn her head. “Hey, are you okay, Wysteria?”
“Huh?..Oh, y-yeah I-I’m fine.” Wysteria stuttered, trying desperately to hid her face from view.
“Alright….If you say so…” Richard said, not buying it. “Let’s get back to practising.” Wysteria nodded.
But before they could do that, they heard someone clapping. They all turned their attention toward the sound, only to see Malachi sitting up and slow clapping. As soon as he saw them all looking at him he stopped.
“What? I can’t congratulate you guys for training when I’m not here?” He asked with an innocent, questioning look on his face.
Without hesitation the four teens ran over and group hugged Malachi. Malachi just laughed, letting himself be tackled into the hug despite his sore shoulder.
“What’s gotten into you guys? It’s like I was dead or something.” Malachi said, chuckling.
