Chapter 24: Cyrus’ Last Stand

Wysteria sprinted toward Jonathan as fast as she could. Jasmine was courageously defending him by blocking incoming attacks with her sword and sending some back at Cyrus. Malachi was doing his best to shield Jasmine, but Cyrus still got some attacks through in an attempt to hit Jonathan while he was down

After what seemed like forever, Wysteria finally reached Jonathan. Richard Joined Jasmine on the defensive, giving Wysteria sufficient cover to heal some of Jonathan’s wounds. She put her arm underneath his back and raised him off the ground. His head lolled to the left, signalling he was out cold. She examined his head for any injuries, finally locating an injury that had turned his white hair crimson. Wysteria quickly close the wound and cleaned up the blood. She gave him a quick hug, rested his back against the wall and stood up to fight with the others.

“We’ve got this, Wysteria. Keep healing Jonathan!” Malachi called, deflecting an attack from Cyrus.

“Right.” Wysteria said, using her ice magic to make a dome surrounding Jonathan and herself.

Wysteria went back to Jonathan and kneeled down beside him, keeping one eye on the battle and the other on her healing. Jonathan had a gash across his chest that needed attention. Wysteria quickly went to work healing it, glancing up every now and then to make sure everyone was alright. Jonathan stirred a bit and that brought Wysteria’s attention back to him.

“Don’t worry. You’re safe. I won’t let Cyrus hurt you anymore.” Wysteria whispered, smoothing out his hair.

Jasmine was striking at Cyrus with new determination. He was not able to dodge all her attacks and suffered a gash to the arm. Wysteria glanced down at Jonathan. She had healed all his major injuries, now all that was left was for him to regain consciousness. His face was less strained now that Wysteria had healed his wounds.

‘How dare he hurt my brother!’ Wysteria thought, growling

She stood up and walked through the shield, but kept it intact to protect Jonathan and conjured duel ice swords. Wysteria darted forward and got behind Cyrus and began striking him fiercely with eyes as cold as the ice weapons she was wielding . He yelled in pain and shot at her, but she evaded the blasts. Luckily Wysteria wasn’t wearing glasses or they would have fallen off because of how fast she was moving. At that moment she was thankful for contacts.

The other four fighters were stunned at her sudden ferocity, but they continued to fight, inspired by Wysteria’s fighting spirit. Cyrus began to tire. He wasn’t young and his stamina was giving out of him trying to keep up with his, much younger, opponents. His footwork became sloppy and earned him many strikes from his four adversaries.

While the others fought Cyrus, it gave Jonathan time to regain consciousness and his senses. He stood up, using his sword for support and broke through the shield and rejoined the battle, albeit more carefully this time. Then the moment of truth arrived, Cyrus tripped and fell to the ground.

“Now! Richard! Wysteria! Jonathan! Jasmine! Activate your stones by touching the center!” Malachi commanded.

The four teens did as they were told. All four stones started to glow in their respective colors, ruby red, topaz yellow, emerald green, and sapphire blue. Together the colors of the rainbow shot at Cyrus. His eyes widened with fear as the beams made contact with him. Cyrus yelled out in pain. His body began to turn gray. He was turning to stone. Cyrus’ last futile cries echoed through the cave as his head became stone as well.
