you were all that crossed my mind. giddy & excited, i skipped around in a happy daze. i was such a fool. all of the next day i looked for you & even though the odds were not in our favor, we ended up on the same boat back from the island to the ship. we met eyes & stole a moment, smiling at each other in semi-surprise. when you weren't looking, i whispered to my mum. "that's the one."
the one that broke my heart.
"that's the one." my mum smiled at me and laughed with the way i acted. i was happy & i was, hopeful. two things i hadn't been in so long. you knew i was there, so you were laughing loud, talking playfully with your family, trying to get my attention. my dad pointed this out and i blushed before putting it to the side, pretending i didn't care. the truth is i was so happy and giddy that someone was trying to get my attention, i was wanted. i got off the boat and when i passed him exchanged a twinkling smile with him, a quiet hello in a crowded place sounded louder than anything i had heard in my life. i think it was because it was my heart that was listening.
looking back on this, it feels surreal. how did this really happen to me?
now it was my turn to fight for your attention. i spoke loudly & laughed at the antics my brother and sister were causing while we waited for my parents. your eyes skimmed over us, i could feel it. how could i not feel your galaxy eyes causing stardust to fall from your lips onto mine with a single "hello" as i stared into them? i smiled and greeted you warmly because i wanted you there, i wanted you so bad.
that afternoon i rushed back to my cabin and picked up a pen and paper.
then, i wrote the first letters of my fate.
