My head is swimming. I look at Merlin and my skull spasms in pain. I'm overloaded with memories of a different time, a different life. Mordred's harsh laugh snaps my attention to him. His gaze is locked on Morgana, and he has an incredulous, disbelieving look on his face.
"You must be joking," he says. "You would never leave me. You said so."
"Things change, Mordred. And so do people. You may be hundreds of years old, but you're still so young at heart. I can still see that young boy Merlin and I rescued all those years ago. You're just a spiteful, angry little boy. Someday you'll have to grow up," Morgana replies. "Now I suggest you leave here before I make you." Her irises swirl with a yellow glow and Mordred glowers in disdain.
"I will return. And when I do, you'll regret what you just said to me. I promise you that."
Once he's gone and the door is shut and bolted, Morgana turns her attention on Merlin. Despite being powerless and bruised, he meets her gaze with just as much intensity. I tense, waiting for a fight.
"You lied to me," she says. "For years, you lied to me. Let me believe I was just some normal girl with a normal life." Merlin clenches his jaw. A slight tremor catches my eye and I look down. His hands are shaking. He's scared. But his gaze never falters.
"I did it for a reason, and you know that," he argues.
"Merlin, I'm not trying to start a fight with you. I'm trying to thank you. All I ever wanted, ever since I went to live with Uther, was to be normal. And to have a friend. You did that for me. You were a friend to me. That's the nicest thing anyone has ever done for me and I am forever in your debt." The corners of her mouth twitch into a minuscule smile. After a moment of hesitation, Merlin sighed.
"You've always been my friend, Morgana. I'm sorry it took nine hundred years for us to realize that."
Suddenly my vision grew blurry and my hearing faded. My limbs felt numb and I collapsed to the floor.
"Arthur!" Merlin's shout sounded a million miles away as I faded in and out of consciousness. "What's wrong with him?
"I don't know. Let's take him to the bedroom. He looks so pale," Morgana's voice sounds from above me, and hands lift me into the air.
"Oh my god, Morgana. Look at his chest," a quiver of fear enters Merlin's voice.
"Is that...blood?" And at that, all thoughts slipped away and my mind faded into unconsciousness.
<<A/N>> Hey sorry this chapter is so short. I'm trying to get into this story again, so I'm still trying to re-warm up to it, if that makes sense. In between chapter uploads, you guys should check out my other stories and poetry!
Anyway, gotta blast.
