My eyes snapped open wide only to be burned by a blindingly bright light. For some odd reason, it felt like the light was calling to me. Out of curiosity and confusion, I began to walk towards the white light until I heard a familiar voice calling my name.
"Pieear, my first born baby boy."
Hearing that voice was like music to my ears, I thought I would never get a chance to hear it again. I quickly turned around not believing it was really her. I was taken back when I realized it really was her standing right there. She was surrounded, from head to toe, by this glowing bright yellow, orange color.
"Ma!?" I questioned, still in disbelief.
She nodded her head. "Yes my son. It's me."
She placed her hand on my cheek that was now leaking from tears. I put my hand on top of hers, still not believing she was really right here talking to me. I had to be dreaming.
"I am so sorry ma." I said trying to hold back more tears. "So so sorry. I shoulda been there for you. I coulda help—" She simply shook her head no.
"Son, there's nothing you or my beautiful daughter could've done to save me. It was simply my time to go and I made peace with that before I went." My eyebrows came together in a confused frown.
"What you mean before you went? If you really gone, how is this possible? How am I takin to you n touchin you? Is this shit even real?"
"Watch your mouth but yes, this is real and I don't have much time left. I came to give you a message. Your sister needs you, she really needs you. She's in trouble and she needs her brother." My mother's voice was laced with heavy concern.
"What?? Needs me how ma?"
"She needs you Pieear." She repeated herself as she began to fade away. I tried grabbing onto her shoulder but my hand went right through her as if she was just a figment of my imagination.
"No wait! How!?"
"Remember my son, I love you. I'll always be with you and your sister, I promise." She said as she completely faded into the darkness. I wiped the remaining tears on my face as I put my head in the palms of my hands.
Why'd she have to leave us? Why couldn't she have just stayed here? I know I wasn't the best son to her when she was alive and it tears me up inside every time I think about it. I wanted to be grown so bad and so fast, now I just wish I listened to her when I was younger. Maybe I could've saved her if I wasn't so into the streets.
"Hey?"
I looked up to see a woman-like entity with her arms spread out wide in front of me. I don't know what compelled me to do so but I got up and hugged this being with no hesitation. I hugged tight and closed my eyes, seeing my memories of me with my family flash through my head. Her arms came down around me and I soon heard a heavenly voice speak to me. "Open your eyes now son."
I opened my eyes and I was met with a hospital room and a nurse who was fixing my IV bag to the left of me. She glanced at me and her eyes went wide as she did a double take.
"He's conscious!" She yelled out twords the door. Seconds later, a man wearing a white lab coat came in and was at my bedside to check me out.
"How are you feeling Mr. Carter?"
