I typed in her address on the GPS. "Beginning route to University of California at Los Angeles Dormitory."

Jason chuckled. "I still can't believe you got Camila Rivera for your vid. That's some wild shit right there."

I shrugged. "It's not that wild. She's just another YouTuber."

I tried to speak nonchalantly, hoping Jason would not put two and two together and figure out Camila was the one I was freaking out over at the club that night. Everyone figured it was just another university student I had a crush on and would forget about once I saw another girl. That was usually how that went.

After a couple minutes, we pulled up in front of the dorms. I texted Camila.

I began to set up my camera on the dashboard. Jason leaned forward in his seat. "What if she does good for the vlogs?"

"Then, she's in more vlogs."

"And if she does good in those, too."

I stopped adjusting the camera and looked in the mirror. "I'm not gonna get my hopes up on this one. We're not desperate for a new member. We're doing good with Jeff, and Jonah's family."

Jason shrugged. "Yeah, but a new girl would be nice."

I sneered at Jason. "We know what happened with Emma. We're not gonna try to do that again."

We thought Emma Chamberlain would join the Vlog Squad. The viewers loved her. She loved us. We were about to sign the contract when James Charles and the twins snatched her first. It would have been big for the vlogs.

We were interrupted by the sound of the passenger door opening.

"Holy shit. This is so nice."

I turned and saw Camila.

What the hell was wrong with me? Why was I turning so red? Why was I so hot?

Why can't I say a single word?

"Ahem." Jason cleared his throat. "Hi, I'm Jason."

He reached his hand out, shaking Camila's.

She smiled. "Nice to finally meet you. I would say hi to David, but he's a little dazed right now."

I shook my head and cleared my throat.

"Sorry, I'm just, um, tired."

I started to drive home, sweat dripping down my head.

I began, "So, Camila, if you couldn't tell, I'm recording right now. I'm just gonna record our conversation which I'll start. Relax. Be genuine with your answers. But obviously make it interesting."

"Also, if David tells a joke, laugh. Even if it isn't funny, which most of the time it won't be." Jason said.

Camila giggled.

Her laugh.

"Anyways, so you mainly vlog your travels and different Q&As," I began.

"Yes," she answered. "It's basically me being an immature crackhead while trying to entertain the other young crackheads of the world."

"Are you actually a crackhead?" Jason asked.

She chuckled. "No, I'm a pothead."

We laughed. Jason looked confused. "Wait, I can't tell if you're kidding or not."

"I'm kidding. I can't do any sort of drugs because of my job."

"Oh, right," I said, "You work for the L.A. Times."

Jason jumped in his seat. "You work for the L.A. Times?"

She nodded. "Their newest junior copywriter to be exact."

Jason seemed to be in awe of her job. Apparently, he understood what a junior copywriter was. I, the man whose only passed high school, did not.

"So do you write articles about crime and politics and liars?" Jason asked.

"Actually, I've been writing about this dangerous man in the L.A. community. He's been hurting the people around him, making pain into a joke, using people-"

"Basically a sociopath." I said

"Yeah." she responded.

Jason shook his head. "That sounds like every celebrity in L.A."

Camila laughed. "True, but this man used pain to make money."

I raised my eyebrows. "Damn, what's his name?"

She smiled. "David Dobrik."

It felt like in that moment all the air in my lungs left my body. I felt afraid and betrayed.
Did she get me in here to spill about me to her newspaper?

I gripped the steering wheel tightly, teeth gritting. I was ready to pull over when Camila and Jason started excessively laughing.

I put the car in auto-pilot and turned to look at them.

"What the hell is so funny?" I yelled.

Camila immediately stopped laughing. She sat back in her seat and looked down at her seat. Jason stared at me with a deadly look.

"David, she's joking."

All the oxygen came back to my body.

"Oh. Well, it wasn't even funny."

I could tell she was scared, and maybe I felt guilty for freaking her out. Either way, the joke should not have been made.
