Chapter 12: Forest Fire

"This is our room!" Kira announced proudly.

Evie looked around the room, it was simple, blue rock walls and a window with a lantern hanging from the ceiling, there was a desk and a bookcase. It reminded her of the room she used to share with Kin, then she noticed the three beds.

"Does someone else sleep here as well?" Evie asked Kira.

Kira nodded, "Yep! Twigs is the last member of our rescue team, he'll be here soon."

"Twigs? What's he like?"

"He's a jerk, a monster. I think he's crazy, sometimes I hear him laughing creepily in the night."

"Kira stop scaring the poor girl."

Evie jumped and turned to see a Turtwig standing in the doorway, he walked over and shook Evie's paw. "Gardevoir filled me in. Nice to meet you, I'm Twigs." He said.

"Evie." She replied.

"You're no fun Twigs." Kira whined.

"Fun at the expense of others? Okay let's see... Got it. Evie did you know that Kira's scared of the-Mmf!"

Kira had run forward and muffled Twigs mouth with her feathers. "You wouldn't dare." She hissed, he just raised an eyebrow in response. "Fine! Fine!" Kira released Twigs and turned to Evie. "I'm sorry." She apologised.

"Um... Okay?" Evie said, unsure of how to respond. Twigs nodded in satisfaction and walked to the desk unpacking items from a bag which Evie had only just noticed. He pulled a badge from the bag, he picked it up in his mouth and offered it to Evie.

"Dis iz yor bage." He said struggling not to drop it. Evie awkwardly accepted the badge, almost kissing the Turtwig. That's one way to make a first impression.

Evie placed the badge on the ground, it had a green centre with a gold rim and white wings sprouted from it. "How do I carry it?" She asked confused.

"Pin it to your fur." Twigs replied.

Evie looked at the badge and then at her clumsy paws. "Uh, help?" She said embarrassed.

"I've got it." Kira replied. The Torchic stepped forward and pinned the badge on the Eevee's fur collar.

"Okay then, let's get going." Twigs turned and began to walk from the room.

"Where are we going?" The two females asked almost in unison.

"The guild's food stocks are running low with everything that's happening, Gardevoir wants us to go to Harvest Woods and get some more. Come on, let's get going." He walked off without another word, Kira and Evie hurried to keep up with him.

The trio arrived at Harvest Woods and entered the dungeon without a thought, Kira and Twigs, they didn't hesitate, they were confident. The first time Evie had entered a dungeon she'd been with Kin, the thought made her sad, she missed him.

"Evie! You coming?" Kira called.

"Yeah!" Evie replied as she was brought back to reality and ran to catch up.

On the first floor they came across a Doduo, it charged at Twigs with Peck, he jumped away and used Razor Leaf, Kira used Ember and the Pokémon was down. She realised now why neither of them hesitated when entering the dungeon, alone they were strong, that much was obvious, but together they were powerful. They worked as a team, they trusted each other, like she had trusted Kin. She shook her head and pushed the thought away, she noticed an advancing Charmander and she used Dig to take it out.
