Chapter 22: Warriors

Kin entered the tower, Kira, Soul and Twigs followed him in. Kin gently placed Pidgeot on the ground and placed a Sitrus berry beside him. Turning, he surveyed the room. Couches and bookcases lined the walls. A circular staircase, leading both upwards and downwards, stood in the room's centre.

Kin approached the staircase, he could feel Evie's aura high above them, so he climbed upwards. Exiting the staircase his brows furrowed angrily. He was in an open room, it was empty except for three Pokémon.

Mewtwo stood over an unconscious Scizor, the explorer was covered in bruises, he wouldn't be getting up anytime soon. Mewtwo wore an angry and merciless expression, floating behind him was Mew, she wore a strange heart shaped necklace. Kin could feel Evie's Aura coming from the necklace, he glared at Mewtwo.

"Give me Evie," Kin demanded.

"No," Mewtwo refused. "I need Evie. Her Aura is constant. The world is changing rapidly, but she has always stayed the same. Her conviction, you can feel it. She brings peace amidst chaos, so she will stay here."

Kin wasn't sure what Mewtwo was talking about; Evie's conviction? Conviction to what? He could ask her later, all that was important now is that he save his friend. Kin assumed a fighting stance, behind him his team did the same. Mewtwo sighed, but prepared for battle nonetheless.

Kin ran at Mewtwo, the psychic-type shot a Psybeam at him. Kin jumped the beam and landed behind Mewtwo, charging at Mew and the necklace she wore. Mewtwo growled and prepared another Psybeam, he grunted and fell forwards when a pain seared across his back.

Mewtwo turned to find that a Snivy had slashed him with Leaf Blade. He roared and shot a Shadow Ball at Soul. Kira jumped in front of the ball and reflected it with her Mirror Move. The Shadow Ball bounced back and hit Mewtwo. They didn't give him a chance to recover, Twig's Razor Leaf and Kira's Flamethrower hammered their foe.

Kin leapt at Mew and reached for the necklace, Mew turned invisible and disappeared. Feeling out her Aura, he leapt towards her. He grabbed the necklace and pulled it from her. He landed and with one hand began firing invisible punches at Mew, with the other hand he planted the necklace in the treasure bag. Mew weaved her way through the Vacuum Wave attacks but was caught by Soul's Wrap attack.

Kin's Bite attack hit Mew hard and she screamed in pain, but she wasn't finished yet. A powerful wind tore through the tower. Kin and Soul were thrown against a wall, Kira and Twigs buckled under the gale and their onslaught slipped. Mewtwo ran forwards and slammed the duo with his tail, they flew backwards, and he fired consecutive Shadow Balls at them. They fell and didn't get back up.

Soul rose and leapt high into the air, she flipped around and prepared a Leaf Tornado, she threw the powerful attack at her opponents. Mew countered the attack with a blast of psychic energy, one explosion later Soul and Mew lay collapsed on opposite sides of the room. Kin and Mewtwo were the last ones standing. They face each other wearily and glared brutally, then Kin's gaze softened.

"Mewtwo, do you know why Mew left you?"

"Of course, I do."

"If you know then why are we still fighting? Why are you still allowing it to control you? Mewtwo stop this. You don't have to listen to the beast. You can beat it, I did!"

"You are not better than me! You gave into it! You allowed it to take over! I fought it and fought it, but it won... I lost, and so did you! You are not better than me! You struggle against it but time and again, whenever things get hard you turn to it for help: You embrace it! You are not better than me! I am a warrior! You... you are a monster."

"A monster huh? I used to think that too. I used to think that I was two Pokémon, one was kind and gentle, the other was a ruthless beast. But then I embraced I him, I faced him head-on and I came out on top. I conquered my greatest fear. No longer am I scared of myself. No longer do I fear losing my best friend. I promised to stay by her side and that is what I will do. Mewtwo, I refuse to let you take her from me."
