To say that she was in emotional turmoil was an understatement. She should be fired. She'd put the firm at risk. Harvey's licence had almost been taken, and here she sat in her little glass prison/office and it felt like everyone was judging her. Which was impossible, because Harvey had contained the mess. Samantha didn't want to talk to her. Katrina eyed her warily, and Alex just shook his head and thankfully didn't address it. There was a knock. She looked up to see Louis.
"Hey, Donna," He stepped in and shut the door, "This Robert Zane fiasco is giving me an aneurysm. Without him, I have no way of dealing with Samamtha. I mean, I have clients on hold who don't think they can trust us anymore. I'm pretty sure Thomas is looking elsewhere. I just need this shitstorm to let up, because I need a day."
The more he said the harder it was to look him in the eye. His words like a knife. She closed her eyes to keep her tears in check, and reached a hand up to massage her temple.
As if on cue, Harvey entered and shut the door. Well, if she were going to be punished now was the time. What better way than to humiliate her in front of the one person who never doubted her.
"What do you want me to say?" She whispered.
"I guess I want to know why you would betray us like you did."
"Louis, enough." Harvey stepped forward in anger.
"No! Not enough. I AM MANAGING PARTNER OF THIS GODDAMN FIRM. SO WHEN I ASK A QUESTION, I EXPECT AN ANSWER." Louis bent over her death seething. The hurt in his eyes haunting her.
"Oh and the reason I'm in here talking to you as your boss, is because you didn't even have the courtesy to come talk to me as a friend. Thomas was my oldest client, Donna. He lost faith in me, because you..." he shook his head.
Harvey looked between them awkwardly. Donna stood slowly.
"I got scared," she whispered through tears, "and you're right Louis. I didn't come to you as friend. I wasn't honest, but I will be now."
A tear trailed down her face.
Louis quickly sat, flipping the switch of concerned friend.
"Please proceed, and know that you are fully supported and heard."
Donna stood quietly for a moment gathering herself.
"Louis, I'm so sorry. I never would have thought I'd be capable of something like this. I have always considered myself to be loyal and reliable..."
"A keeper of many secrets," he nodded in agreement, "Which is what really confused me, Donna!" He stood.
"Sit." She pointed.
"Right." He immediately obeyed, making Harvey smirk.
"It wasn't about the deal. It wasn't about Kessler or the case really. I...I knew I had to let go soon, or I never would. I was unable to give Thomas everything and I knew why..." She eyed Harvey, and he looked away in embarrassment. Louis looked between them.
"So you telling Thomas, was your way of choosing him over Harvey...? Omigod, Donna, I had no idea. It must've killed you inside."
She shook her head and turned toward the window. The emotion becoming too much. Honesty was hard work.
"It did. I was waiting for Harvey to call. Begging him to come through. I hardly slept, knowing the decision I would have to make. When I told him, I expected to feel relief, but I didn't. Only hurt, and pain, and guilt. My decision didn't just effect Harvey though, it effected everyone here, and that's on me. I get that. I had just been waiting and waiting, and it hit me that I'd been waiting for far longer than three days. I'd been waiting for years holding out this hope for something that would probably never happen, but you were right Louis."
"I was?" He stands in confusion.
"You once told me reluctantly that as much as Harvey's methods and ego annoy you, he always comes through."
Louis looked at Harvey and smiled, "He may be the bane of my existence, Donna, but he's 100% reliable."
Louis exits quickly leaving Harvey to stare at Donna. She'd just bared her soul to Louis and indirectly...him.
"Donna..." he steps forward.
"Don't tell me it's not my fault. It is," She glares at him. He stays silent. She has more to say.
"I know I appear to be this invincible stone wall, Harvey, but...I have just proved to you that I can make emotional decisions with devastating consequences. I'm human, Harvey. I'm not some other worldly goddess." She shrugs, looking at him with tears in her eyes and nervously bites her lip.
He smiles at her knowingly.
"You think I'm going to pack up and go because I found out that the great and powerful wizard is all just some myth?" He smirks and grabs her hand and kisses it.
"You know Wizard of Oz?"
"I know you, Donna. And I know that you have been loyal and true to all of us when we had our errors in judgement, now we get to return the favor. I don't know if you know this, but I have faith in you."
She hiccups and wrapped her arms around his neck.
"Oh Harvey..."
He kisses her temple as she squeezed him tighter. So maybe he was the comforting type. So what? She needed him so he would be there.
