Gracie's POV

When Mommy and Daddy picked me and Gabe up from daycare, we didn't go home. Daddy drove us close to McDonalds. But we went to this gray place that looked like it was really sad, even though buildings don't have feelings. It had words on it, but I can't read yet, so I don't know what it says.

Daddy picked me up and Mommy picked up Gabe and we went into the building. It looked sad on the inside too. There was a little girl on her tippy toes by a desk with a lady behind it. The little girl was wearing a light purple shirt and blue overalls. She wasn't wearing any shoes, and her hair was in a super messy ponytail. She was carrying a teddy bear and a dirty blanket. She looked sad. The lady picked her up and walked over to us. She said, "Hi, I'm Mrs. Karey. Welcome to Shadow Creek Home for Girls. How may I help you?" She was nice. Then mommy said, "Hi, I'd like to adopt a girl between the ages of 10 and 15." The lady said, "Okay, I'll call them down." She went upstairs and Mommy put Gabe down. Daddy put me down and I sat down on the floor. Mommy said, "Gracelyn Lovato! These floors are filthy!" She picked me up and I laid my head down on her shoulder. I was super tired so I closed my eyes and fell asleep.

Demi's POV

Gracie fell asleep on my shoulder. She was just too cute to stay mad at. That child can make you do anything. Mrs. Karey came back down pretty soon. "The girls are making themselves presentable. They should be down in a minute," she said. "How many girls are there?" I asked. "12," she responded as one girl came down the stairs. "This is Gabriella." "Gabby," the girl corrected. "Right," said Mrs. Karey. "She's 13." 5 more girls came down the stairs. They introduced themselves as Danielle, age 11, Sami, age 12, Fiona, age 10, Emily, age 11, and CeCe, age 15. 2 more. Eden and Emma, both age 12. 3 more. Dylan, age 13, Kaitlyn, age 12, and Victoria, age 15. That's 11. We waited a little while, but nobody else came down. "Oh, that'll be Mackenzie," Mrs. Karey said, and ran upstairs. She came back with a very, very skinny girl. "This is Mackenzie," Mrs. Karey said. "Mac," the girl responded. "I'm 14." She seemed like she would be a challenge, but I like challenges. Mrs. Karey took Nick and me to another room. "So, I'm going to let you talk to each of the girls so that you can get to know them. You'll see them in the order they came down. Okay?" Mrs. Karey said cheerfully, almost too cheerfully. "Great," Nick and I said in unison. This could take a while.
