Can you see us?

I got out of bed and stretched. Today was a week since I had been rescued from Arkham. I was starting to fill out, my ribs weren't as noticeable. My cheeks weren't gaunt anymore, and I cut my hair. Tabitha was pleased I had taken up on her offer, and my training began. My whole body felt like one big sore, and it hurt to even breathe. But I felt good, better than I had in my entire life in fact. I limped over to the dresser and pulled out a pair of leggings which I threw on. I went to Jerome side and grabbed one of his sweatshirts. I inhaled his sent, then went down to breakfast. Theo said he would be telling the rest of the team about his plan for us today.

(Quick side note, if you are confused on the timeline here, I don't blame you. I messed up so I fixed "Withdrawl" and "Bad dreams", so the whole Maniax thing didn't happen. Sorry about that, if I were you, I'd go back and reread the chapter. Thx)

At the breakfast table, I sat next to Jerome. I grabbed a plate and loaded on the pancakes. While I was smearing on some butter, Theo walked in with Barbara. I dumped on a huge amount of syrup as he sat down.

Theo stood in the center of us and cleared his throat.

"Jerome, after breakfast, would you mind stepping into my office? I have some plans I would like to discuss with you." Then he walked out before Jerome had time to swallow the pancake in his throat to answer.

"Yay, big bossman has more plans." He said sarcastically into his plate. I had noticed a slight change in him lately. He seemed to be resisting a higher order, sometimes he would roll his eyes or huff after Theo or Barbara left the room. Me, I was just grateful for a room over my head and food in my belly. I glanced up to see Greenwood glaring at Jerome. There was plenty of tension between those two, both grabbing for the leader spot in our group.

"Hey babe, do you want to do anything later? Go see the city some more or something?" I twisted my promise ring around and around my finger, trying to lift his mood a little. Jerome glanced up at me.

"Sure depending on what boss man wants, afterwards we can go." He smirked at me and grabbed his plate, licking it clean of syrup and belched, making me giggle.

Jerome was gone for two hours. During that time I tried to occupy myself to the best of my ability. I wandered around the complex, found a stash of cash, and stole a couple of bundles. Then I headed back to our room to await my redheaded lover. I put on a little bit of makeup and applied it, then took out some temporary hair dye, and dyed my hair black. It didn't suit me but we couldn't risk being recognized. As I was fluffing my curls, Jerome walked in, seeming distracted. He jumped when he saw me.

"Didn't recognize ya with that hair doll." He gave me a toothy smile.

"Here," I tossed him a cap, "hide that flaming red hair of yours and lets ditch this hot dog stand." I took the cash out of my front pocket and wiggled my eyebrows at him.

"Ahh, just like the circus days, but better!" He threw on the cap and we headed towards the fire escape. I hate heights, so Jerome went first and coaxed me down the whole way. Once we hit the ground, we went for a restaurant. It had been all frozen, boxed, and canned food that Theo had been serving us, and I was craving a burger like crazy.

We got a seat in the corner of a little restaurant called "Dave's" and sat down.

"So, how'd the meeting go?" I asked Jerome.

"Fine, fine, Theo has some big ambitions, but what's new?" He shrugged and grabbed my hand across the table. "I say, once we get enough attention and power," he leaned in closer to me, and I felt myself doing the same, "We take all the money we can and start our own little shin dig."
