The buildup

Jerome and I headed back shortly after finishing up at a clothing store. We went up the same way we got down, which terrified me, and snuck back into our room like teenagers. I hid my giggles behind my hand and we fell onto the bed in a heap. I kissed him and then laid on top of him, on my back, and we laid there and just breathed with each other. Knock knock knock.

I sat up, making Jerome groan in pain, and laughed before hopping down off of the bed. He rolled over on his side and ignored the person at the door. I opened it to reveal Tabitha. She grabbed my arm and ripped me into the hall. I let out a small cry in protest, and I heard Jerome sit up in bed. She pulled me along with her into the hall, dragging me as I tripped over my feet. Jerome wasn't far behind me as she tossed me into a room. Theo was sitting in a desk, feet propped up on the table. He was tapping his fingers in a rhythm on the desk, looking annoyed at something. He smiled when I fell on the floor.

"Faith! Jerome! Take a seat please." He pointed to two chairs facing him across his desk. Jerome lifted me up gently and I plopped in one of the chairs, Jerome following right after me.

"What's up Theo?" He asked him, crossing his legs and leaning back in the chair.

"Well you see children," He paused and grabbed a remote to turn on the T.V. behind him. "We seem to have a little problem."

The whole restaurant has been slaughtered. It seems to be the work of Jerome Valeska and his lover, Faith Hertz. One of the waitresses was found with her throat slit, by the table the two were assumed be eating at. The rest of the eaters had bullet holes in their foreheads, and the cook was shoved into the fryer.

The television went blank as he turned it off again. I laughed a little under my breath and he shot me a look.

"So, you think this is a funny situation?" He stood and slapped his palms on the desk, startling me. "This is not funny in the least! Do you know how badly this could have messed up our plans! You could have destroyed everything! You are lucky I need the both of you, or I would kill you both right here right now!" He yelled into our faces, breathing heavily. I stared back at him, not willing to make him think I was scared. I rolled my eyes and he slapped me across the face as hard as he could. I fell out of the chair, my ears ringing. I heard muffled shouting and saw Jerome lunge across the table. Tabitha flung her whip out and wrapped it around his torso, wrenching him backwards. I screamed at her, and stood.

Turning to Theo I adressed him, "Let us go right now, we won't do anything like this ever again. If we do, you can kill me but don't hurt him." I spoke bravely for how fast my heart was beating. "I promise." Theo glared at me, and looked like he might just kill us right now.

"Tabby, escort them back into their room. Post a guard at the bottom of the fire escape and one outside the door." With that he waved a hand at us and she started dragging Jerome.

"Um hey, Tabby, let go of him," I told her, mockingly using her nickname. She dropped him and I rushed over, helping him stand up. He didn't appear to be injured, just had the wind knocked out of him. She waited til we were inside the room and slammed the door so hard I thought it was going to fall of the hinges. Jerome didn't sit, he waited till I was then crossed his arms, glaring at me.

"You just promised your life to him, how are we gonna get out of here now?" I shrugged.

"To me all that matters is that we make it out alive. He had murder in his eyes, and I don't trust Tabitha." I patted the spot besides me, and he plopped down with a sigh.

"Now, tell me this little plan of yours, or you can plan on sleeping on the fire escape." I told him, half serious. He sighed and laid back on the bed.
