We had barely been recovered from the island and we were currently on our way bacl to Metroville.
"So. That was an interesting mission huh?" Mr. Incredible started. I just curled up in my seat and stared out the window silently. I...I wasn't in a talking mood. I was in a state of shellshock, I was still recovering from the entire ordeal with the Omnidroid.
"Hey uh...you alright kid?" Mr. Incredible asked. Trying to strike up conversation. I just gave a simple head shake, no words. This actually made Mr. Incredible visibly frown, since throughout most of the mission I didn't shut up. I decided to break my silence after about...10 or so minutes.
"That was scary," I muttered, barely loud enough for Mr. Incredible to hear.
"Scary? You handled that well for that being scary," Mr. Incredible complimented. I simply shook my head.
"I panicked...my instincts were telling me to run like my life depended on it," I denied.
"What? You did great for your first mission," Mr. Incredible told me.
"Are you kidding? I freaked out, I ran away, I felt like my life was in genuine danger!" I began shouting.
"Look. You're still young; it's a bit to take in," Mr. Incredible tried to calm me down.
"I almost died by a giant robot! If I just get killed, who will be there for May?! She's worried enough for one lifetime, cried enough for one lifetime! I'm not making her worry anymore. I'll tell Mirage I won't go on another mission," I finally spat out. The thought dancing around in my mind for quite some time after the robot.
"What? Kid you did fine. You can handle another mission-"
"NO I CAN'T! I'M THE FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD SPIDER-MAN! NOT THE WORLD SAVING SPIDER-MAN!" I shouted in anger.
"I....I fight not so I can gain recognition...not so I can feel some sort of glory or adrenaline. I just...give the police a handing hand. Even if they might not want it," I said, calming down.
"I just....I just do this because I feel like I'm responsible for doing something good with my powers," I explained, staring out the window.
"Wow...you're quite mature for your age," Mr. Incredible realized.
"When you can do the things I can...and you don't...and then the bad things happen? They happen because of you," I said, telling Mr. Incredible the epiphany I had when Uncle Ben died in front of me.
"Wow...that's one of the most poetic things I've ever heard from a teenager," I heard Mirage state as she entered the room.
"And it's the last thing you'll hear from me. I'm out. I won't go on another mission like this," I said plainly.
"I understand. I thought you might have been a bit...shaky when it came to this stuff," Mirage confirmed.
"Then you'll understand that if you have another assignment for me...it better be in the city," I demanded.
"Crystal clear, Spider-Man," Mirage confirmed once more.
"We're still getting you a new suit," Mr. Incredible said, pointing out the tear down the side of my suit.
"New suit? Unless you know someone with access to better materials than gymnastic spandex, then I think this suit is the best I can do," I elaborated.
"I think I know someone who might be able to help with that," Mr. Incredible said with a smirk. We soon landed back in Metroville and I got off the plane. Mirage gave us both a change of civilian clothes and I got into Bob's car so he can take me home.
"Remember when you said the drop pods didn't change? What did you mean by that?" Bob asked.
"I meant you need to get in shape, buddy," I bluntly said.
"What? I'm still in shape," Bob defended.
"You really aren't. Your super suit barely fits on you anymore," I stated again.
"Oh...Oh....maybe you're right," Bob admitted.
"Look you're Mr. Incredible. Getting in shape shouldn't be hard. Just...bench press a few trains or something?" I chuckled.
"What about you? Do you have a workout routine?" Bob asked.
"I just have combat training with Mr. Murdock," I stated.
"Matt? He's in town?" Bob asked in surprise.
"Yeah...he's principal of the school," I replied.
"Makes sense. He knows how to be the by the book," Bob stated as we got to my house.
"I'll come get you when I go get my suit repaired, okay?" Bob asked as I got out of the car.
"Got it," I responded as I got to the door.
