Drunk

You were drinking again last night.

You confront your fears as they arise,

Up with the bottle and you swallow them with the beer,

The rum,

The vodka,

Until you do not know what you're drinking

And you can't understand the world around you

Their contents melds with all those fuzzy voices and they make the shape of the key that unlocks your heart

It pools at your feet and you sink to your knees in front of me

Secrets,

Soaking the fabric of your nice dress pants

The only thing between you and what you want now, is a phone screen

Open bar means bottled courage to you,

It means loosening the seal on your throat enough

So that you can tell me what you feel

I know now why you never say these things sober,

I know why your mouth stays shut

Anxiety has such a white knuckle hold on your windpipe that you have to remember to breathe first,

Talking takes the back seat.

You know I see you in my sleep darling,

But do you see me in your dreams?

You admitted to me last night,

That you were drunk as fuck,

But you said "I love you."

How long were these words caught in your throat?
