Ever since she was a little girl, Judith Devine pitied all those underneath her.
She pitied children who never got what they wanted. She pitied parents who could never give their children what they wanted. She mourned for people who lost limbs, pitied those who were beat up. Felt disgusted at those who did the beating. Pitied the children of the parents who did. Pitied the poor, the homeless, the hungry, the starving, the sick, the uneducated.
She pitied those, whose fathers could never land a job, whose fathers beat their mothers in the end, who beat their children. She pitied them.
She pitied those who were lonely, those who were bullied at school, those who were bullied by their brothers, those who were bullied by their teachers.
Those who never had any friends, those who had only trouble.
Those who wore rags, those who could never afford shoes.
Those who bled from their noses in the cold winters, those who fell down unconscious in the summer heat.Judith Devine pitied everyone beneath her.
That is; Judith Devine; pitied no one.
