Chapter 7
"Whatchu mean stupid? When have I ever done anything that stupid?" Ace asked.
"Nigga I know you ain't just ask no dumb ass question like that." Jaylen said.
My point exactly. Does he not realize he doesn't take the time to think about things before doing something that typically has severe consequences? He sighed. "Whatever bro, who the hell is this babysitter?" Ace asked. I looked at the time on the radio of Ace's car it read 8:00. "Welp would you look at the time? We only have 15 minutes left. See you later!" I unlocked my door and took off towards the school.
I knew I'd regret that later on but right now I needed to get to my locker so I could go to class. Once all my things were in my locker, I made it to class with a couple of minutes to spare. School went on with me avoiding Ace and Jaylen while getting rude looks from girls and having guys whistle at me. Not one person came to say some shit to my face, though. These people are rude as hell.
At lunch, I went to the library and sat in the back. During the day the pills started to wear off so when lunch did come by, I was in pain and ended up limping to the library. I was also hungry but decided to wait till I go home. Taking out the pills I rotated the bottle to look at the label.
Take One Pill Each Time of Usage.
It says to only consume one, but I want to take three just to make sure the pain was completely gone for the rest of the day. I heard footsteps but didn't pay them any mind. I just sit there for a minute looking at them trying to figure out if I wanted to take all three. "Anya." I jumped, almost dropping the pills.
"What you doin'?" It was Jaylen. "I was taking some more pills." I told him as he made his way over to me, he took the bottle out my hand.
"Mhm just like I thought. Anya this says to take one at a time, so why you got three in yo hand? I know good and damn well you read this bottle." He asked and I shrugged. "I don't see the big deal Jaylen it's just two more." "Well I'm not letting you take more than you supposed to. What if you pass out during class?"I shrugged. "Exactly so give me two of them."
He ended up sitting in the chair across from me after taking and putting the pills I gave him back in the bottle. "What's goin' on with you Nya? According to Ace you ain't been right since yesterday. You know you can tell me anything. We both know I'm the nice one between Ace and me." I chuckled because it was true.
"I can be just as mean, but Ace covers that enough for the both of us. Tell me what's goin' on and who the hell this babysitter is." He wanted me to tell him everything I knew but the only thing I know is his name.
I shook my head. "There's nothing to tell Jay." I was starting to tear up, though.
I'm tired of thinking about him. It was clear in his face that he didn't believe me. "See Nah ion believe that Nya. I can't cause if there was nothing to tell you wouldn't be sitting here bout to cry, Anya. Why can't you just tell me?" He asked. I took my pill dry. "I just don't know him that -" He cut me off.
"Him?" I nodded.
"What's his name?"
"Daven." I mumbled.
"What?"
"It's Daven."
Jaylen face started to look confused. "What he look like?"
"He's white, with green eyes; he has freckles. He's kind of skinny, and he's short." I lied looking at my lap. I shouldn't lie because I know they'll find out eventually but right now that's the only solution to me.
"Did he do something to you?" I stayed silent. That made Jay sit up.
"Anya, did he do something to you?" I shook my head.
"No Jaylen, he didn't do anything. He's nice to me."
"Then why are you crying?"
"Because I wish my parents would spend time with me, Jaylen. I wish they were around." I said. "Didn't you talk to them about that?" He asked.
I sighed and wiped my face. "No. They don't stay long enough for me talk to them. They always leave me."
"When they come home, they don't even ask how I am when they were gone, they just sit and talk about how they had so much fun and they tell me about all the stuff they did. Not once asking a simple question like 'How was school'. They don't care Jaylen."
I look up at him as I wiped my tears away and took a deep breath. "They never did." Jaylen got up from his seat, came around to mine and pulled me up to hug him.
"Why you ain't tell us this is how you felt? You always talk about how you don't care because they never did." He asked.
"What would be the point? What could you do?"
"We aren't your parents but Ace and I would have spent as much time with you as possible and now that we both live on our own you could stay with either one of us."
Why would you spend most of your time with me?" I asked.
"Because you our family girl. We love yo annoying ass" Jaylen said with a laugh. I smacked my teeth.
"Man get off of me. I'm not dealing with you today."
"Here. Eat before it gets cold." I heard from behind me.
I turned to see Ace walking towards us with a bag of Wendy's. I snatched the bag from him and took my food out. I guess this is his way of saying sorry for being rude cause he knows I love Wendy's.
"Chill with all that snatching. I'll throw all that shit right in the garbage." He said sitting in the chair Jaylen was previously sitting in. I smacked my teeth.
"I bet you won't, though."
He stared at me for a second before nodding his head and getting up and coming to my side. "No, stop! I was just playing." I said covering my food up.
"Yea that's what I thought Lil nigga."
Ace said walking back to his seat and getting on his phone.
"Thank you."
"Mhm"
"Nigga why you ain't get me no food? I'm hungry too." Jaylen asked. He knows he has to ask Ace directly to get him something if he really wants it. I laughed.
"You have legs, and money nigga Wendy's is up the street." Ace said not looking up.
Jaylen sat back and smacked his teeth. I held out my burger to him. "You can have my burger, Jaylen."
He pushed my hand away and shook his head. "Nah go ahead and eat, Anya. I know you didn't eat breakfast today. Thank you, though." I nodded.
While eating I thought about what I would do when I got home. I don't want to run into Derrick, but it's inevitable because we're in the same house. I just don't know what he'll do this time. I'll just try to stay away from him the best I can, maybe even stay out of the house as much as I can.
Would he be mad at me, though? Would I be able to stay out after school without coming home to more rape and beatings? He's only done it once but that doesn't mean he won't do it again. "Whatchu over there thinking about?" Ace asked. I hadn't realized that I'd started to play with my fries.
"Nothing important, just wanna go home." I don't know why I would say that, knowing he would offer to take me. That's the one place I would like to stay away from right now. "Well let's go." He said, about to get up. I shook my head. "You know I don't skip school A. I can't afford to skip a class. You shouldn't be skipping either Sir, neither one of you." They looked at each other and sighed.
"Here she go bro." Jaylen said.
"No, listen to me ya'll. It's our senior year, and we have to graduate together." I said.
"Here you go. All he said was that he would take you home girl. Don't turn his rare kindness into a lecture." Jay said."He's only mean to you, but I'm just saying. I want to graduate with both of my friends. Not by herself. Is that too much to ask of the both of you?" I said, throwing my trash away.
"Nah it's not but we got this Anya. We gone graduate together. I promise." Ace said, ignoring Jay's comment on him being rude. I just decided to leave the topic alone because I didn't want to get into that with them. Now that I think about it, I'm supposed to be hiding from these niggas.
"How y'all find me?" I asked. Jaylen looked at me blankly, while Ace continued to look at his phone. "Where else would you be on school grounds Anya? You spend all your time in class and when you're free, you go to the library. Don't act like we don't know you by now." Jay explained.
I guess that makes sense. "What made Tamyra ask us if we trusted her?" I sighed, while shaking my head. She really tried to make me out to be some kind of hoe cause she believed what her fake ass friends were telling her. She ruined years of friendship because she decided to listen to what other people had to say about my relationships and me. Something that's nobodies business but mine.
"She accused me of things that weren't true, so I told her what she needed to hear. The truth." I said, leaning back in my chair and checking the time. "What did she accuse you of?" Jay asked. Ace didn't say anything but I knew he was listening.
I chuckled at how idiotic this was about to sound. "Apparently, I'm in a relationship."
"With who?"
"The two of you." I said, looking up watching their faces.
