I walked out of the hotel and got into a cab. "Bus station please," I told the cab driver. I was going to go to Nevada. There is where I would report what happened to Truine. I wish our system could have been more advanced, like I should be able to at least just call him. But no, people will be able to hear the conversation and spy on us. So I have to do it the old-fashioned way and go to see that dick face-to-face.
I have hated Truine ever since he killed my parents. We used to actually be quite good friends, he was like an uncle to me.
I never would have imagined that he would do that to me. He and my parents had been such good friends and co-workers. He told me that it was for my own good. I still remember it clearly.
I had just gotten home from academy, the place where they teach us to become fighters and/or spaceship engineers. "Where are my parents?" I asked.
"Honey, I need to tell you something." He told me. "I have some very bad news, it's about your parents."
I already knew, "You killed them didn't you?"
He was taken aback, "Why would you think that I would do such a thing?"
"Because you're you. You want power, and my parents were getting in the way of you getting it. I've known for a long time that you would try to do something like that."
He was shocked, "Fine,"he said sternly. "I killed them, like you said, they were getting in the way. But you don't know the whole stor--"
"Stop." I interrupted him. "I don't want to know what else you have to say about my parents." And with that, I stormed out.
"Hey, we're here." The cab driver told me. Woah, I had lost track of time thinking about Truine.
"Thanks," I told the driver. I paid him and got out. I bought a ticket for a bus to Nevada and waited. My bus wasn't supposed to leave until 5:30, so I had time.
"So I told you my name, what's yours?" I jumped. I turned around and it was Bryan. Are you kidding me?! Can I never get rid of this kid.
"Why. Are. You. Following. Me?" I yelled at him.
"Because I know that you had something to do with that guy disappearing, and I need to know what it is. By the way, I asked you a question."
"Yuvia."
"Yuvia?"
"Yuvia," I confirmed. "It means rain."
"Oh nice," he told me. "I was named after my dad." He said with a wink. I had to admit, he was charming. His green eyes really complimented his hair.
"Okay, so what did you do to that man? Are you an alien?" He was oddly calm about this. I was not going to give him anything.
"Listen, I saw that man disappear too. But I had nothing to do with it, and I'm just as freaked out as you are. Well maybe even more because you seem very calm about this whole thing."
"Dude. I know you're an alien."
Shit.
"No human being in their right mind would take out a pen when they are being charged at, as I said back at the hotel."
Okay, so he didn't have actual evidence.
"You're crazy," I told him.
"Might be,"he said and laughed. His laugh! His eyes squinted and his nose scrunched up. He looked like a little kid. He also looked very hot.
"Listen, Bryan named-after-your-father, I do not know you, and need you to leave me alone."
"But you can get to know me," he wiggled his eyebrows. Definitely flirting with me. "I don't care that you're an alien, I want to know you."
I did not want to get to know anyone. Even though i hated what I had to do, if I didn't do it, Truine would kill me. If I got close to anyone, they would probably be targeted next.
