Stupid

I woke up again, this time not under a pair of bright blue eyes that mirrored my own. I sat up, this time not bumping heads with a tan, dark-haired, beautiful girl. I looked around, this time not to see an angry, but equally as beautiful boy.

Instead I saw the two beautiful people sleeping. I looked around, outside there was daylight and the rain had stopped. I carefully made my way out from under all the heavy blankets and tip toed outside. I found my boots outside the opening of the tent along with two other pairs of boots. I was surprised no one had taken them.

I needed to think. Should I stay with the Messi's? I looked around, I'm pretty sure that Truine would not just have left me alone, especially after revealing all that information.

I didn't see anyone so I just kept walking. I walked around Central Park, seeing horrible things as I went.

There was a lady lying dead on the wet floor, her head was smashed in and one of her legs was at an awkward angle. Beside her there was a baby? Whoever killed the lady must have thought that it was courteous to let the baby die with her. The baby must have died from the cold though, there weren't any marks on it.

Across the park, near the lake, there were bodies floating, the smell of burned flesh still on them. They must have been set on fire, jumping into the lake to try to put it out but drowned instead. This must have recently happened, because the bodies were still smoking and there was rain last night, which would have put the fire out.

I crossed by probably seven other corpses, none of them having such an impact on me as the mother and child did. The fact that the baby was still there meant that some humans still had their humanity left in them. I didn't know what to think about that. This might mean that they are stronger than we first predicted, which is bad for us. But was I still part of my people? Do they still want me with them? Or do they not care for me anymore?

Should I ditch my people and team up with the people that I actually belong to? I know that this is what Truine is looking for, what I'll do in this situation. What i don't know is what Truine will do if I make the decision to go against him, stick with these people. I know it won't be something good though.

I made my way back to the tent, I heard talking inside. I took my boots off and walked inside. I could stand straight up in the tent, but I could see that Lizette and Lionel had to hunch over. They turned and looked at me, their eyes widening.

"You're back?" Lizette asked, confused.

"Um, yeah," I told her. They obviously weren't expecting me to come back.

"We weren't expecting you to come back," Lizette confirmed, rubbing the back of her neck awkwardly.

"Oh," this was awkward. I turned to leave.

"No, no. You can stay if you want, it's just, no one ever comes back." Lizette admitted. "The people we save usually just take our stuff and leave, that's why we were surprised that you came back. There was also nothing missing, which was even more surprising."

I had no interest in taking their stuff. I looked to Lionel, he was watching me closely. I think he was trying to anticipate my next move.

"It's fine if you stay," Lizette gave me a warm smile. "We'd like the company."

Lionel shot her a glare, but she ignored him. "Do you want to stay with us?"

I guess I did need time to think things through, and I didn't want to have to keep scavenging. The Messi's looked like they could hold up a fight and avoid one if they needed to. "I would like to," I said sheepishly.

Lionel stormed out of the tent. But Lizette smiled widely. "Great! It'll be fun to have another girl here, but you need to know that we all work together and pull our own weight around here. You're expected to help. And you can stay with us as long as you want, but you should try to lay low around Lionel."
