Odd Love ~ Chapter 1

~Ava P.O.V.

"Ava! Ava!" I turn away from my locker as I hear my name being shouted down the school halls. I look for the owner of the voice, which I had recognised immediately. Ah, there she is! As she comes walking down the hall she waves excitedly with the bag she was holding, a bag that obviously wasn't her schoolbag. I groan as I realise what she must be holding, my present.

"Ava, sweetie! I've missed you!" she squeels as she gives me a hug. "I missed you too, Rach, even though I saw you yesterday." I replie.

"I brought your present, but you can't open it untill this afternoon, at your birthday party." she says and I give a fake angry look. I am the first one in my group of friends to turn sixteen, so they made a huge thing out of it.

"You know I can't this afternoon, Rachel." Rachel, James and I were werewolves and I, as first child of the alpha, had to take my alpha lessons every afternoon. Because I had to be prepared when I had to take over from my dad. "Ow, but you can A, I talked to your dad yesterday and you don't have to take your alpha lessons this afternoon!" she wispers to me excitedly. Then her expression changed, I knew that wasn't everything! My dad would never allow me to miss a lesson. "You do have to take two lessons this weekend, though..."

"Rachel! C'mon! You know I hate weekend lessons!" I normally didn't have to take weekend lessons. It was because I told my dad it would be suspicious if I was busy every weekend. Plus, I hated the 'teacher', she was a super annoying bitch who would always complains about everything I do or say. Rachel looks sad and I can't stand my friends being sad, especially not on my birthday.

"It doesn't matter, Rach." I say, then I add "I am so excited for this afternoon!"

"Me too!" she says. Then a pair of arms are wrapped around me from behind. At first I tense but then I hear a voice behind me "Happy birthday, birthday girl!" I relax in his arms, it's Finn. Finn and I are super close, like Super close. If you don't know us you'd say we are a couple. But we aren't, as both Finn and I are gay. I turn around to give him a peck on his cheek and he gives me one back. Rachel and I talk to Finn for some time and after a while Lisette and James arrive. Lizzy gives me a hugh and I get a wink from James, knowing what it means for us wolves to become sixteen. James has had a crush on Lisette ever since when they met in seventh grade and last year, in 9th grade he finally got the courage to ask her out, they have been a couple ever since. I told James multiple times that the chance that Lizzy will be his mate is small, but he won't believe me. We are about to start a conversation about this afternoon, as the bell rings through the halls. We part our ways to our classes, which means Finn and I go to Chemistry, Lizzy and Rachel go to their art class and James has to go to PE, all by himself. After Lizzy and James end their 'dramatic' goodbye James leaves to the right where the sportfields are as the rest of us go to the right. At the end of the hallway our ways part too. Lizzy and Rachel go to the right while Finn and I take the left hallway.

"Soooo..." Finn says, which usually means he wants to say something but doesn't know how to. "Just spit it out, Finn" he acts surprised "How do you know I wanted to ask something?" "I know you, Finn, we've been best friend since we were five!" He nods in agreement and seems to discuss if asking his question will be worth the answer, and apparrently it is as he says "I saw James gave you a wink when he and Lizzy arrived, why did he give you a wink?" I laugh at his uncomfortable expression and wisper my answer "You know James, Rachel and I are werewolfs, right?" he nods. "Well, I haven't told you everything about werewolfs" he looks surprised, but I don't give him the opporunity to talk as I continue "Every werewolf has a mate, a mate is like a soulmate and he/she is your other half. You are able to find yourmate from the day you turn sixteen." He still looks confused as he adds 2 and 2 together, then his expression clears as he wisper shouts "You turned sixteen today! have you found her already?" I give him a dumb expression and smack him across his head, like I wouldn't tell him first if I had! "Trust me, if I had you would be the first to know." "Damn straight you would!" he alsmost shouts, then we both laugh because he said 'straight' and that is the last thing we are. Then we reaslise the class has already started so we decide to pay attention for once.

After Chemistry I have English with James but he has to come from the other side of the school, so I walk to the Language section by myself. I arrive before James so I sit down and save him a seat. Then I notice something is of. It smells really nice in the classroom, a bit like roses, and I wonder what it is. But I don't get time to think about what it could be because james plops down in the seat next to me. "Hey Ava, you seem different, have you done something with your hair?" I look at him, what is wolfs sake is he talking about? "What do you mean, different? I look the same as I did earlier this morning when I saw you..." "Oow... Guess it's just me then." He says with a weird expression on his face. When everyone has, finally, arrived the teacher starts the class.

"Hello everyone, my name is mr. Shoon and I will be your English teacher for the rest of the year. First things first, you will have assigned seats this year and I will pick them randomly from my list, so don't try to get a figure out of this. okay?" everyone nods.

"Okay, first duo is: Julia Reed and Damien Black, find a spot where you want to sit you two.

Second couple Martin Hale and James Hudsons, same goes fo you.

Third couple will be Ava McWolfe and Mackenzie Blake, I guess you know what to do." I look around and see a really cute girl looking around as well. When I look in her eyes the smell of roses gets way stronger and inside my wolf screams 'MATE!'. Guess I now know who my mate is. Then her eyes flash yellow, a sign of recognision and reverence. This means she is a wolf as well and shows me she knows her place. I walk up to her and hold my hand out for her to shake. As I am the daughter of the alpha and she knows her place, she better shake it and tell me her name. When she speaks her voice is full of admiration. "Hello Ava, my name is Mackenzie, it's an honour to talk to you." she wispers the last part because to humans it would sound really weird if someone would say that. "Hi Mackenzie, nice to meet you. Where do you want to sit?" I ask her "It doensn't matter to me" okay weird, most people would say where they want to sit, even wolves. Then I decide we'll sit on the third row next to the window. Mackenzie gives me the window seet, then she sits down next to me.

By now the teacher has formed all couples and everyone sits down. "Okay, so now everyone knows each others names we'll do a project together to get to know each other a little better." Mackenzie shifts uncomfortable in her seat, doesn't she want to do a project with me? At that tought my wolf and I both flinch, hurt by the tought that our mate might hate us. "So, I'll only give you one lesson for this project, which means you'll have to meet outside of school to finish it. The project I want you to do is an essay about eachother, so you'll really get to know the person you'll have to do all projects with in the coming year. Your essay is due next friday so you better get started." When the teacher is done talking I turn to Mackenzie "Do you want to come to mine after school, we could work on the project?" I ask her. She nods and I smile at her. "Great, do you know where my locker is? In case you don't my locker number is 1352, if you come there after school you can drive home with me! Or if you have your own car you can drive after me! My gosh, this is so exciting!" I tell her so many things at the same time and I can tell she's lost. "I know where your locker is, mine is on the opposite side of the hall." "Ow, I didn't know, I've never seen you around there before... Do you have a car?" she shakes her head "That's ok, you can drive with me, I'll bring you home when we're done studying!" She looks down to the ground and then I realise something "How old are you actually?" I ask her, because I want to know if she already knows we're mates. "I am fifteen," she wispers. That means she doesn't know that we're mates, yet. "When is your birthday?" "It's on November 25th" She replies quietly, I nod, that's in a few weeks. After that we just talk for a bit, well I talk and she nods mostly. Then the bell rings telling us the class is ending and we get up. As I walk away I hear a soft "Bye" behind me. I turn around and wave at her, maybe she doesn't hate me after all!
