~Ava pov.

The next monday starts terrible, I oversleep, and if I want to keep my normal appearance up I will be late for school. Luckily I showered yesterday evening, so I can skip that right now. I get dressed and do my make-up. Then I go downstairs to get my morning coffee and see Finn sitting at the table.

"Why did you not wake me up?" I ask him. He shrugs "You looked like you could use the sleep, and we don't have class the first period so you won't be late for school anyways." I look at him and decide he is right, I could use some sleep. But I'm awake now anyways, so I better get ready. I grab some coffee and sit down at the kitchen table. Then I realise something.

"Why are you already awake if we don't have to be at school until 9.15?" Finn shrugs "Where do you think this," he beckons at himself "comes from?" I laugh and shake my head. Sometimes he's such a weirdo. I look at the clock and see it is 8 in the morning, that means we have about 45 minutes before we have to leave.

"So what are you going to do about 'the thing'?" Finn asks. Somewhere this weekend we started calling everything that happened with mackenzie 'the thing', because I don't really like talking about it. "I don't know, I guess I'll try being friends with her and hope it will evolve into something more than that. Plus, it's only a couple more days until her sixteenth birthday." Finn nods. "I think that's for the best, you did invite her to your birthday party after all. It wasn't like she forced us to invite her." I laugh a bit. "No, Mackenzie would never do that. But shouldn't you be getting ready for school? It's already..." I check the clock on the kitchen wall "Half past eight." "What? No it can't be! I have to get dressed and everything!" Finn rushes out of the kitchen half pulling his pj-shirt over his head, alsmost falling in the progress.

"Are you okay, Finn?" I half shout at him "Yeah, yeah, I'm fine." and he's gone. I realise that in my rush this morning I didn't put a lot of effort into my make up and since I've had breakfast already I can always do it again. I walk upstairs to Finn's room and check his make-up collection. I decide to add some more eyeshadow and a touch of lipgloss, I allready put on my eyeliner this morning. When I'm finally okay with my make up, I knock on the bathroom door.

"Finn, hurry! We have to leave in two minutes!" He opens the door. "I'm done, I'm done, don't worry we'll be in time." We walk downstairs, get our schoolbags and get into Finn's car.

After driving for 25 minutes, we arrive at school. And the first person I see is Mackenzie and she's walking our way. Oh no, what am I going to do? Do I act normal? Or pissed for leaving like that last Friday? "What do I do?" I wisper-shout to Finn. He shrugs, oh great. Way to help a friend Finn! Just go with the flow, Ava, I tell myself. You'll be fine. I put on my biggest smile, as I go to greet Mackenzie.

"Hi, darling! You look lovely today." Ugh, it still hurts. "Thank you, you look very pretty. Did you have a nice weekend?" She asks, smiling innocently. "I didn't really. Hope you did?" I reply. Mackenzie looks shocked. "My weekend was okay, didn't do much. What happened that your weekend wasn't good? Can I help in any way?" I smile sadly, she should know what happened. "I got kicked out and I amd staying, pretty much living, with Finn and his family. My parents kicked me out because I finally told them the truth about me being a lesbian, something I should've done a log time ago." "You did? I'm so proud of you! Did they do anything about your status in the Pack?" I shrug "I don't know, I'm not really on speaking terms with them at the moment." She nods "I understand, if you need anything I am here for you." "Thank you, Mackenzie." The bell rings and we leave to our classes. Finn and Mackenzie leave to he right and I leave in the opposite direction.

Monday goes by as a normal day, before I realise it school is done for the day and Finn and I are on de livingroom floor doing our homework. I am working on maths and so is Finn.

"So, did you buy Mackenzie a present? Because, even after all, it is her birthday tomorrow. I suggest you buy her a cute bracelet or necklace." Finn says after a few minutes. "No I didn't, I don't know what to buy her..." I say. He gets up and offers me a hand which I grab. "So, now that we're both standing. Where are we going, sir?" "I don't know, milady, my suggestion is the really cute jewellery shop just down main street." I nod, thinking about it. "I think that is a very good idea, sir. Perhaps you want to drive us there?" Finn gets all happy because he gets to drive. He's got a driving license but doesn't have a car because he's saving money to uy his dream car, a mini cooper. "Yes, yes , yes! A million times yes! Thank you, A, for letting me drive!" He practically drags me to the car and we get in, driving of.

We arrive in the small town centre and get to the little shop called Fizzie's. It's run by Lisa, the daughter of Fizzie, she took over when her mother retired. Fizzie was my grandpa's beta and best friend before he died. Finn and I usually come by to see if there's anything new and cute. "Ava, darling! It's lovely to see you!" Lisa greets me. "Lisa, lovely to see you too! How are you?" I smile, I consider Lisa a true friend. "I am fine darling. Anything perticular in mind today?" "Actually. I do. I turned sixteen theother day and I found my mate. And it's her birthday tomorrow so I need to find her a present." "Congrats, darling, I have the perfect present for you." She beckons me to follow her and takes us to the back of the shop. "This is the present I ment, it's a beautiful locket. You can put a picture in it and I can carve twoor three words in it for you." Lisa hands me the locket. I have to admit, it's really pretty. It's heartshaped and looks very funerable. "I love it, how much is it?" "Normally it's 30 pounds, but you can have it for 15." She says, walking back to the front of the shop. "Thank you, Lisa, you're too kind." I replie. I pay, and Finn and I leave the shop.

"Let's grab some coffee-to-go and could we stop by my old house? I need to pick something up." I say. Finn looks shocked and worried. "Don't worry, Finny, my dad is working 'till 6." He nods "Okay then, let's go." We stop by Starbucks to get our favorite drinks, and get back to our car. Finn drives again.

"There it is, boo" Finn says "do you want me to come with you or can you do this yourself?" I take a deep breath and say "I can do this, if I'm not back in five minutes call James and Rachel." "Okay, A, good luck" I get out of the car and walk to the front door. Taking another deep breath, I press the doorbell. After a few seconds, my mom opens the door.

"Good afternoon, mother. I need to have my wolf charm." My mom just stands there, shocked to see me. "Mother? I need it now." Something seems to click and she nods. "Yes, your charm. I will get it for you. Come in, do you want something to drink?" "No mother, just the charm." A wolf charm is a charm carved by the parents of the new born wolf during their first full moon. It has the initial of your mate on it. Now you might wonder, how do the parents know which letter to carve on it? I'll tell you, it's kind of stupid actually. In the time between the wolf being born and their first full moon, the parents will have a certain letter standing out everywhere they see it. My mom used to tell me that after a few days she got really anoyed by all the M's she would see. My mother returns with the charm and fr the first time ever, I get to take a good look at it. It's beautifully carved and you can see they put a lot of time and effort in to it. I hold my hand out and my mom puts the charm in my hand. "Thank you, mom. I have to go now but I might come over sometime." Before she can say anything else, I turn around and leave.

I return to Finn and without saying anything he drives of. When we arrive home, I realise I'm still holding on to the charm as if it's all I have left. When we're inside I get the necklace out of my bag and open the box it is in. I get the wolf charm and put it on the necklace next to the locker. I look at it and smile. I found my mate, I found my mate. Now that I see the charm it is like I just realised it. I put the necklace back into the box carefully. I can't wait to give it to Mackenzie!
