I wake up the next morning to the smell of breakfast cooking.
Sniff
It's bacon. And eggs.
Do you ever wake up in the morning and your tummy is so empty that it hurts? That is how I feel every morning of my life.
I bounce my way out of bed and walk into my bathroom. My bedroom is the only room in the house with a bathroom in it, aside from my parents' bedroom. The perks of being the only girl. All three of my brothers share a bathroom.
And believe me, you don't wanna go in there. My nose crinkles at the thought of all the germs in there. Disgusting. After going to the bathroom, I pull my hair up into a bun and then notice that I have a pimple the size of Mount Rushmore on my forehead. I frown at myself while shaking my head sleepily. Are you kidding me?
Sighing, I walk back back into my bedroom silently praying for acne to no longer exist. My skin was doing so well!
I pull out a pair of pajama shorts from my dresser and slip them on before grabbing my phone and making my way downstairs.
I find myself in the kitchen practically drooling over the yummy smell. My brother, Kaiden, is standing in front of the stove cooking up a fried egg. My eyes land on the plate of hot, greasy bacon on the counter next to him. Mouth watering and tummy grumbling.
As if sensing my presence or hearing my hungry tummy, Kai turns around and takes in my disheveled and sleepy appearance before smiling at me. Then his eyes narrow. "Is that my shirt?"
I like to sleep in my dad and brothers' shirts. They're so comfy and baggy and I don't like wearing fitted shirts to sleep in because they get all twisted around me and it's uncomfortable. Sue me. Also I don't have any sisters to fight with for stealing each other's clothes, so I make up for it by stealing my dad and brothers clothes. Logic.
An innocent smile slips on my face as I walk towards him. I open my arms and wrap him in a hug.
"I looove you Kai Kai. Are you making me breakfast? You're my favorite brother." I could practically feel him rolling his eyes. His arms remain limp at his sides since I included his arms in the hug instead of just hugging his waist.
I try to discreetly steal a piece of bacon from off of the plate behind him and I was just about to get my fingers on a deliciously greasy piece before he pulls his arms out of my hug and shoves me away.
Dang it. So close.
"Not so fast Katie. Wait until your eggs are done."
"You're making me eggs?" I exclaim with a cheesy smile on my face. "I knew you loved me." I bat my eyelashes at him. My family brings out my dramatic slash obnoxious side.
"You can only have eggs and bacon if you go to the gym with me. Tristen won't go with me anymore since he's hanging out with Emma." He explains while placing his fried egg on his plate with a spatula.
I quickly think over in my head what I have planned for the day. I'm not hanging out with the girls until much later today and I'm going to my aunts house but that's not until noon. I haven't been to the gym in a while since I usually work out with the cheer squad at the school. Sure, why not.
I hop up from the island stool I was sitting on. "Okay I'll go with you. I'm gonna go get changed real quick and I expect my food to be ready when I get back. But don't make me that nasty fried egg stuff. The yolk isn't even cooked!" I scrunch my face up in disgust and shake my head while marching my way up the stairs.
"Scrambled eggs with extra cheese coming right up!" He swishes his spatula around like how they swish their wands in Harry Potter.
