"Now I'm slipping through the cracks of your cold embrace"
- Alec BenjaminHE HAS NOTHING
Red.
In the mirror, on the polished bathroom floor, on her fingers, in his eyes.
It was the only thing she could see. Red. So much red.She hated it. Hated how now she couldn't see anything but it.
It tainted her world without her permission, without any intention to ever disappear. She looked at the girl in the mirror once again, dull eyes staring back at her in search for something they never seemed to find. They lowered onto her lips which parted slightly on their own accord, a laboured breath leaving them in a cloud of smoke trough the thick cold December air.
Will she ever escape it? Escape agonisingly beautiful shade of red she couldn't help but love? And hate? Will she ever be able to see it as just a color again?
She realised another breath as her hands smoothed the short velvet dress she wore before she gave her self a quick once-over. She looked good, in all the dark long curls and high cheekbones she was, like a true beauty. That's what they all always said.
She was so beautiful and enticing that her empty eyes always seemed to go unnoticed even by those who stared for too long. After a few minutes spent lost in her reflection she moved away from the mirror, disgusted by the weak girl who stared back at her, and opened the bathroom door welcoming the loud voices and the clicking of the high heels against the marble floor.
Just a few more. Just a few more times and then she will escape it all.
As she stepped into the sparkly world that she so deeply despised, it seemed as if for just a second it all stopped shining. The light of the chandeliers dimmed, the voices lowered to quiet whispers, the sound of glasses clicking left the room and the white of the smiles that just a few seconds before clouded the room disappeared.
In that moment, it all seemed to stop. It was so fleeting and volatile one could not have seen it but only felt it. It that moment the only thing that could be heard was the pumping heart of the girl dressed in red. She was the only one breathing, the only one alive.
