Chapter Three - Misunderstanding
Yi Wei and Xian Wu stare at Patriarch Wen’s corpse, both dumbfounded at his sudden assassination. The glove gently vibrates yet again and the powerful concealing formation around them dissipates into nothingness.
“He-help!”
The short cry barely escapes Xian Wu’s lips, tears quickly forming in her eyes. Yi Wei speedily adapts to the situation and rushes from the bench to the side of Patriarch Wen’s dead body. He quietly slips into a state of delirium and begins to assess the Patriarch’s injuries.
Knock knock!
Several guards beat on the door from the outside, one of them shouts,
“What’s going on in there? Open this door now!” Xian Wu glances at the door then at Yi Wei and the wall the assassins came from. ‘Where did they go?’, she quietly wonders. The door is finally broken open and some of the guards rush inside, the leading man wearing iron armor much more refined to the others. He yells out in a booming voice,
“Step away from my brother, foul traitor!” Yi Wei awakens and turns to look at the newcomers, confusion sprouting in his mind.
“What do you mean by this, did you and your men not catch the assassins? Why are you wasting time here? Who are you anyway?” His eyes narrow in an inquisitive glare.
“I am Yi Wuhan, co-captain of Lynthia village’s guard. I order you to step away from him, now!”
Yi Wei stands and turns to Xian Wu with a dazed expression, the men in armor filling the surrounding space imposingly. One of the guards grab him roughly by the shoulders and drags him to the guard captain. Yi Wuhan looks over him carefully with a discerning eye. The sword on Yi Wei’s waist catches his eye, “Remove your sword, boy.”
Yi Wei returns his gaze with a hateful glare before shaking his head determinedly. Yi Wuhan lifts his eyes to meet his, the fire in them seemingly a playtoy.
“Do it for him then, yeah? Quickly, it wasn’t a question!”
One of the guards stumbles and forcefully pulls Yi Wei’s sword from his waist, tossing it to Yi Wuhan, of whom tosses it to the ground with a metal clang.
“You won’t be needing that.”
He retrieves a sturdy iron chain from one of the guards and tightly secures Yi Wei’s hands together. “What are you doing?” Xian Wu cries out as the guards roughly drag Yi Wei out of the room by the shoulders. Yi Wuhan turns to her and responds to her question with a wave of his hand. He walks out of the room, leaving her breathless for a moment. After gathering her wits, she quickly steals the sword from the ground and chases after them.
~In a cold, dark room~
A young man kneels heavily, electricity rapidly riding the chains that bind him. Anger is evident on his face, to be betrayed by one’s own clan is a fate worse than death.
“If I get out of this, I swear to God I will tear you apart!”
He roars at the figure standing opposite him, electricity filling the room. It doesn’t last long, however, as an invisible force beats it down ruthlessly, leaving the young man exhausted. The figure turns to face him and smirks at his efforts. “If.”
Rain heavily pours from above the village, the marching warband only several miles off from their position. Yi Chen and his men stand atop the hastily built battlements, their appearance is spectacular. Hundreds of men line the walls all prepared to defend Lynthia to the death. A running messenger shouts up to Yi Chen from below.
