Ben was the most adorable human creature you had ever met in your life. You'd think he was a cocky little shit, but he was so loving, caring, kind and funny, you were still trying to find some flaws, just to "humanize" him a little bit. But even his "flaws" were good in a way.
No wonder you fell in love with him, who wouldn't? He treated you like a queen (no pun intended). You were his best friend, his confidant, his girlfriend, his person. He loved you so much, sometimes he'd feel overwhelmed.
When you'd come home from work exhausted, and you'd fall asleep on the couch, with your uncomfortable shoes on, he'd take them off for you, careful enough not to wake you. He'd carry you to the bed and tuck you in. He'd take off your makeup softly, and place a kiss on your forehead.
Of course there were times where you felt like he was out of your league, the insecurity is always there when you date someone so high profiled like Ben. But he felt the same way sometimes too. He never saw himself as the world were beginning to see him. He knew he had hit the jackpot with you, but he sometimes thought he didn't deserve such an amazing person like you.
His family adored you. His parents, his siblings. Frankie. They all loved you and they even considered you as a part of their family. Yours loved Ben as well. It was so perfect. You loved the life you had with him. Sure, you hated when Ben would be gone for weeks, but it was his dream, his career, and the pride you felt for him was much bigger than anything else. You were probably his biggest supporter.
You couldn't avoid the comparisons between you and his ex. You understood at some point. She was a big part of his life, after all, they were together for nearly a decade, and that was very intimidating. Ben loved that you were understanding of his past relationship. He'd joke around saying you were Frankie's good stepmother. You didn't mind, though. You couldn't and wouldn't compete with her. You and his ex got along well. You made the effort for Ben's sake.
His friends had told you how happier Ben became after you. Little did they know how much your life changed after Ben. Sure, now you had strangers trying to find out about your personal lives, but you knew that was a package deal kind of situation.
You loved Ben more than you thought you'd ever love someone in your life. And it went both ways. Reciprocate love is one of the best, most unique things in the world, and you were lucky enough to know what it felt like.
To Ben, it felt like the smell of summer. The beach, the sand, the sun. The tranquility, the peacefulness. The freedom.
To Ben, you were his "smell of summer". You were the beach  – what made him feel calm. The sand  – what kept his feet on the ground. And the sun  – what made him feel warm and safe.
You were his favorite person. You have no idea how much he loves you.
He'd sometimes ask himself if it was real life, if it was just fantasy (another no pun intended), because you were too perfect to be real.
And to you, he was the love of your life (lol gotcha again).
