It's been about three days since that run in with Janell and her girlfriend. Three whole days of silence at home because Casime and I had an argument. I guess that's what happens when your best friend cares about you. I know he meant well but that wasn't the time or place.
I flip through the channels on the television, aimlessly seaching for something to catch my interest. Seemingly, out of nowhere, my stomach growls. I guess it is about that time to eat dinner. I grab my phone, chinese sounds amazing right now. Just as I was about to dial the number, the front door opens and Casime, staggers in holding a large paper bag.
I watch him go to the kitchen and come back with two plates. He sits the food on the coffee table in the center of the living room. My stomach growls again at the devine scent wofting from the bag.
"Somebody is hungry, here this is for you. Consider this an apology." He fixes my plate and hands in to me. It's Chinese.
A smile creeps on to my face after I take the bite. "Apology accepted big head."
"I knew you couldn't stay mad at me." He flashes a bright smile at me.
"Only because food is my weakness."
We chow down on and the dynaic between us returns to normal. That's the thing about Casime's and I relationship that I adore. We may fuss and fight but it's nothing that good food and light hearted jokes can't fix.
"So Jordan called me last night... he said he thinks that it's time to come out." Casime said excitedly.
"Wow, about time."
"I know right but I had to put my foot down and told him that I was tired of waiting." I sat back on that couch about to burst from food and pride.
"Well I'm proud of you standing up for yourself. So when is the big day?"
"This weekend. His parents are coming over for dinner."
"Are you going to be there too or no?"
"Jordan has asked me to be there in case things go south but I don't know Naomi. I'm actually kind of nervous about the entire situation. What if they disown him? He will hate me." I watched Casime tumble into a state of panic and doubt. He buried his face in hands.
I got up and sat on the floor in front of him. I place my hands on his knees. He looks up at me. "Sweetie, you can't do that to yourself. You deserve to be happy. Hell Jordan deserves to know what true freedom feels like. He has been in the closet so long that he is comfortable at this point."
"I hear what you are saying but Naomi, what if they-"
"Stop. Just roll with it Casime."
He sighed heavily, "you're right. I just need to chill." He sat up straight and puts on a determined face.
"There you go." I smile at him and he nods. I stand up start clearing up the table when my phone vibrates. I dispose the excess food and place the plates in the dishwasher. When I get back in the living room, I grab my phone and find a text from Janell.
'Can we talk?'
I really don't think we have anything left to talk about. I'm done with Janell. She texts me again.
'Open the door Naomi.'
Getting frustrated, I pull up my keyboard and text her back saying that there is nothing to discuss. Fucking around with her was easier when I didn't have to see her girlfriend. She was a faceless victim. I know that I don't owe the girl loyalty but I don't have to take part in the cheating either. Then I hear a knock on the door. I look around to see that Casime had run off to his room, no doubt to call Jordan before bed. I chewed on my lip, debating if I should answer the door.
