It's been almost a month since I have been working with the Williams. The parents are still super busy, the older brother still cheeky and the younger sister is growing fond of me more each day.I am currently in the kitchen cooking breakfast, Martha had to stop pretending to be okay after her arthritis got worse. Her foot was now swollen and she couldn't spend hours on her feet cooking or cleaning for the Williams like she used to. I am temporarily acting as the nanny and maid of the house. It's only been a few days in the double position but surprisingly it isn't all that hard at all. Except now I have to reach the Williams house by 6am to prepare breakfast and do the dishes before beginning my work as nanny, I sometimes dust during the day while Katherine is napping and take the opportunity to pick Martha's herbs and tend the back yard garden she had going.
I also start dinner at 5:30 and by 6pm all the Williams are at the dining table having dinner. Because of the hours I get on and off work, I've been allowed to sleep in the guest room, I even have some of my clothes and other necessities over.
Tonight for dinner I made creamy pasta and baked chicken with greens. After serving dinner, I was about to go sit and eat in the kitchen like I've been doing the past week when Anne invited me to sit and have dinner with them.
I made my plate hurriedly and sat with the family. After graces, the usual dinner conversations began, each family member talking about their day. Anne cleared her throat when it was her turn,
"Leigh-ann, I know you're young and you have been thrown into a situation where you have to be performing duties outside of your contract and for that I say thank you. You have been a huge help to my family and I'm sure I speak for everybody when I say I'm glad I hired you. With that being said, I have some bad news, Martha had called earlier today, due to her illness her doctor has suggested she retire, meaning she won't be working for us anymore. I have already alerted the agency, we'll be getting a new maid soon but Leigh-ann... I know it's a lot to ask and this arrangement wasn't what you signed on to, but I'm willing to pay you for the past few days and any future days you have to work double jobs until the agency sends over new candidates and we hire someone. I know it's a lot to ask and it's sudden but..."
I cut her off,
"Anne, honestly it's not much of a problem or anything. I am glad to help out, I am grateful for what your family has been doing for me and this is no hassle, I'm happy to help out while things get settled." I smiled at her, she looked relieved and squeezed her husband's hand over the table.
"Honestly, I appreciate what you are doing so much." Jack chimed in nodding, he threw me a grateful look.
He isn't a man of many words so I appreciated him saying this. Katherine seems excited by the idea that I will be staying over her house more often, I could already see a slideshow of all the things she had planned for us to do. When I glanced at Kylian, he was busy stuffing his face. Anne glances at him briefly and had to do a double take, she began scolding him.
"Kylian, where are your manners. I swear sometimes..." she shook her head. Kylian looked up grinning sheepishly,
"But it's so good." He mumbled.
Jack chuckled at that, "I must admit, this honestly is good. You have been cooking us delicious food for the past few days." He said addressing me, I blushed under the attention when Anne and Katherine chimed in expressing their love for my cooking too.
"That's the Jamaican in her peeking out." Kylian said sending me a wink. Anne looked at me with wide eyes, "I knew this taste was familiar. I just couldn't remember where..." she turned to Jack, "Remember when we went on vacation there in 2012, the place is beautiful and the food and music." She said gushing.
