(I warned you I would do this)
Marvin scowled as he passed the pastel section of his school. It was like this at every school-divided. Pastels and punks don't get along. They never had and never will. He rejoined his own group, which were the punks.James Church walked up to him and was about to start a conversation before an announcement interrupted him.
"All students to the auditorium please."
There were annoyed grumbles and relieved sighs from the students as the made their way toward the auditorium. The students split up as they made their way to their separate sides.
"Alright students!" the principal called out, clapping his hands together, "So, the school board has noticed some.... division in schools. They have decided to do something about it, so we are going to be pairing two of you together one from each group and..."
Marvin tuned out not really caring about any new arrangements. He heard that he was going to be paired with one of the pastels and that was all he needed to know.
"Feldman, Marvin! Brown, Whizzer!" The principal called out.
Marvin was confused for a second before he saw Whizzer walking up to the stage. He got out of his seat, certainly not in any kind of hurry, and leisurely made his way to the stage. Mr. Washington, the history teacher, have them a checklist and they walked back to their respective seats. Well, Marvin tried to. Whizzer grabbed his arm, yanking the shorter boy almost on top of him.
"What?" Marvin hissed, more annoyed now than ever, "Do you have a problem?"
Whizzer said nothing, instead jabbing his pointer finger at the first point on the checklist.
-Sit next to each other after assembly
Marvin groaned, but nonetheless took a seat next to Whizzer.
"What's the consequence for us not doing this anyway?" Marvin asked after the principal kept calling out names.
"Weren't you listening?" Whizzer shot back. The shorter boy gave him a pointed look and Whizzer sighed and explained, " They'll fail us for social Sciences class if we don't finish it, and don't even pretend that you don't care about your grade because everyone knows you do."
Marvin nodded, not really knowing how to respond to that, although he still had some questions. However, he didn't ask them because Whizzer seemed annoyed already and he did not want to star out like this. He went back to tuning out the principal as he kept shouting out names. He heard James get paired with Chris (so he's been crushing on most of the year while Marvin and Kevin begged him to just talk to him damnit), but then introduced himself as Poptarts 'because he loves them so much '. Charlotte also got paired with someone she had been crushing on, Cordelia, so maybe they decided it on compatibility. He looked over to Whizzer, admiring his facial features for a bit, before realizing that it was creepy and quickly turning away.
The assembly was finally over, after many, many more names were called out, so Marvin and Whizzer stood up and began to walk out together.
"Alright," Whizzer said, stopping Marvin in the hall, "We're going to be stuck with each other for a while, right? So, why don't we make the most of it, you know, get to know each other a bit."
Marvin shrugged, and Whizzer took that as a 'yes'.
"Meet me at the coffee shop across the street from here, okay?" The younger boy asked, although it didn't really seem like much of a question.
Marvin raised an eyebrow in confusion, assuming the younger if the two wouldn't want to spend any extra time with him. The pastel-clad boy then pulled out the list and pointed to the third bullet point on the list.
- Meet up after school
The bullet point before that read
-Sit with each other at lunch every day (Do not leave the building)
Marvin shrugged, muttering, "sure" under his breath before heading back to class.
"They also switched out classes so we're together."
Marvin could've screamed.
