Chapter 5

It was around 16:10 when Shōyō was in the backroom, changing from his uniform to normal clothes. It was still sunny but getting dark when he stepped out of the backdoor and into the small alley that was beside a very tall building, hence why the sun was blocked.

Shōyō heard a sound somewhere further away from the opening of the alley, rustling. Should I bother? It always ends up bad...

Shōyō didn't have a good feeling for this, he never had but he still went to see what it was. He walked quietly to the end to the alley, not wanting to alarm anyone that might be hiding there. Suddenly a grey cat crept through all the bags lying on the ground. Shōyō sighed, mostly from relief.

"Come here buddy... come here! Aren't you a munchkin? You guys are way too cute!!" Shōyō bent down and the cat, surprisingly, came to him. He began petting it as it snuggled to him, he laughed.

"Are you lost? Not that I can help you... do you have an owner?" he looked for the cats' collar and found a cute little collar with a name tag. Cupcake. Such a cute name!!!

"Cupcake? You are so cute!! Too bad you already have an owner! I would've taken you home with me!" Shōyō said with a happy voice as he kept petting the cute cat. The cat meowed cutely before it went its way back to its home.

"Bye little kitty! Awe... I hope I see it again...!" he said as he stood up and walked away passing a bike store. Deciding he should buy a bike he went inside and was greeted by a woman in her 20s. His eyes caught a red bike, he went up to it.

"Excuse me, how much does this cost?"

"Oh, I see you have nice taste! It's new and it costs 190 643.00 yen." Shōyō nearly choked on his own spit when he heard the price. He couldn't possibly afford that much! Maybe he would if he saved...

"Thank you! Then I need to make sure I save enough for it!" Shōyō said happily as the girl just laughed. He exited the store and took the bus home.

With the 71, 491 yen/month that Shōyō got from his job under the last two and half months he was able to save as much as he could to buy that bike he wanted. He rode it every day from and to work and it became a whole lot easier to go grocery shopping.

The begging of the school year was nearing, and it was only one day left. Shōyō was, to say the least, excited. He wasn't excited for school. No, of course not. He was excited to make new friends and play volleyball again. He did play whenever he could ever since he came.

Regarding his family, he had not contacted them yet like he promised he would but Shōyō thought that it was still too early. He wanted to at least have some action, like do some things in the volleyball club he was planning on applying to.

It was an amazing day, so he decided to go for a walk. Locking the door of his cheap but new apartment he walked on the streets while the sun was shining, and soon enough people were almost everywhere. It would've certainly been a waste if he had stayed home.

Walking around peacefully with sunglasses he stopped in front of a sports store. He opened the door and was met with cool air, looking around he found that the clothes and bags were displayed in the begging and the sports equipment were placed further away. Walking straight to the volleyball section he started looking for kneepads.

"Hello there! Are you looking for something special?" a kind voice asked causing Shōyō to get scared and jump back a few feet. A worker in that store had approached him but started apologizing once he noticed that he startled a customer.
