Aphmau's P.O.V
I try to walk away but I feel someone grab onto my arms. I see Garroth holding me there.
I turn and smile at them and ask, "I'm sorry Dante, Garroth, what do you need?"
"We want to know why you are investigating the crime scene and what happened. Even KC, the owner of the cafe, isn't allowed near it or to know things in detail," Dante tells me.
"I'm sorry, but the information of what happened here is classified until further notice. As for why I am allowed near the crime scene, I just so happen to be one of the lead investigators for the MSPD (Mystreet Police Department) and if you don't unhand me I can have you arrested for interfering or even trying to sabotage an investigation, which can be faced with fines or a short time in jail," I tell the guys. They leave me alone and go back to the group to tell them what I said.
I go outside to get the autopsy reports. I then head home to make a very amazing defense for Kala so she can get away and back to the Few.
Time skip to next day
I wake up and take a shower. I was just barely able to get a good enough alibi for Kala. Let's just pray that it is good enough since I'm a tiny bit out of practice. After my shower, I dry my hair and put it in a high pony. I do my makeup and put on the same suit as yesterday. I grab my briefcase and head downstairs. I grab an apple for the road and yell up to the girls, "Gotta go to work, see you guys later."
I head to the courthouse and park my car. I get out and walk up the Marble stairs, my heels click satisfyingly as I walk. I make sure to have my glasses on so I can read what I wrote. It's a good thing that I make sure my lawyer license is never expired or I could be in a lot of trouble right now. I head to the courtroom and open the door. I feel all the power flowing through my veins as I walk over to Kala. We shake hands and sit down. I notice everyone staring at me and looking amazed. I then remember that I am like the BEST sassiest lawyer ever in all of history. They actually teach about me in all law schools.
I look over at the District Attorney and can tell almost just by the first glace that she is fresh out of law school. This has to be her first or second case. I smile over at her and she gives me a nervous wave. I almost feel bad that I will be trying to crush her spirit, almost.
I look over at the jury and see that there are some people from the street there, including Castor. Of course, he would have Jury duty today of all days. I look over at the clerk and recognize him as Mr. Krown. he has been the clerk for many of the cases that I do. I also recognize the Bailiff as Deputy Howard Neal, a good friend of mine.
The case starts with the bailiff saying, "All rise." We all stand up. I look over to see my favorite Jude, Judge Hailey. She is very tough and we have worked together quite a bit. But, she is still very professional which I respect.
"Department One of the County Court is now in session. Judge Hailey presiding. Please be seated," the bailiff continues. Everyone sits down. We direct our attention to the Judge.
"Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. Calling the case of the People of the County of Mystreet versus Kala. Are both sides ready?" she asks.
The District Attorney stands up and says, "Ready for the people, Your Honor." She sits back down.
I stand up and say, "Ready for the Defence, Your Honor." I sit back down.
Judge Hailey asks, "Will the Clerk please swear in the jury?"
The clerk stands and says, "Will the jury please stand and raise your right hand?" They do as he says, "Do each of you swear that you will fairly try the case before this court and that you will return a true verdict according to the evidence and the instructions of the court, so help you, God? Please say 'I do'." They all respond. "You may be seated," the clerk finishes.
"Now I will hear your opening statements," the judge tells us.
The DA stands up and read from her paper, "Your Honor and ladies and gentlemen of the jury: the defendant has been charged with the crime of second-degree murder. The evidence will show that Mr. Robert Grey was murdered on July 20th, just yesterday. The defendant was found next to the body with blood on her hands mumbling about how this wasn't meant to happen. The evidence I present to you will prove to you that the defendant is guilty as charged." She sits back down.
I stand up and say to both jury and judge, "Your Honor and ladies and gentlemen of the jury: under the law, my client is presumed innocent until proven guilty. During this trial, you will hear no real evidence against my client. You will come to know the truth: that Ms. Kala Howlett was acting in self-defense and wasn't the one to attack first. Therefore my client is not guilty."
"The prosecution may call its first witness," Judge Hailey says.
"The People call the owner of the Maid Cafe," the DA says. KC gets escorted by the bailiff up to the stand and she sits. She looks over at Kala and looks scared. I can guess why Kala murdered someone in her maid cafe.
The clerk says, "Please stand. Raise your right hand." KC does as he says. "Do you promise that the testimony you shall give in the case before this court shall be the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, so help you, God?"
"I do," KC replies. She isn't talking in the third person, must be because this is a very serious matter.
"Please state your first and last name," the clerk tells her.
"Nana Ashida. But I prefer to be called Kawii~Chan," KC says.
"You may be seated," the clerk finishes.
The reporter tells her, "Please spell your last name for the record." KC spells her last name.
The DA stands up and asks, "Nana, you own the Kawaii Sweet, Maid Treat CAfe, correct?"
"Yes," KC replies.
And what is the address of your cafe?" the DA questions.
"193 Main Street, Mystreet," KC answers.
"Were you working July 20th, " the DA asks confidentially.
"Yes, I was actually waiting tables that day," KC responds.
"Was Ms. Kala Howlett one of the customers in your cafe?"
"Yes."
"What table was she at?"
"Table 305"
"And where is that in relations to the crime scene?"
"It is 3 tables away from the crime scene."
"And where was the crime scene?"
"At table 302, which is where Mr. Grey was sitting."
"And are either of these people regulars?"
"Ms. Howlett has been there multiple times and has always been kind. Mr. Grey had only been there the day before and was asking a lot of strange questions."
"Can you please tell us what you saw happen?"
"Yes. Mr. Grey had finished eating and got up to leave without paying. I confronted him and told him this. He pushed me out of the way and says he will pay if he wants. Thats when Ms. Howlett came over and asked him to apologize to me. He refused. Ms. Howlett helped me up and asked me to stand out of the way. Them Mr. Grey went after Ms. Howlett with a gun. He shot at her once, which she dodged. She turned and told everyone to stay clear. As she turned back she was shot in the arm. She ran over to him and took the gun. She turned on the safety and tossed it to the side. She knocked him to the ground and punched him in the chest. He started to bleed out. MS, Howlett tried to stop the bleeding but was unsuccessful. By the time the cops got there, he was dead and Ms. Howlett was mumbling to herself."
"Thank you, I have no further questions."
"Does the defense have any questions?" The Judge asks.
"Not at this time, Your Honor," I tell her.
"Witness is excused," The judge says. KC goes back and sits down in her seat.
