Aphmau's P.O.V
"The prosecution may call the next witness," Judge Hailey says.
The DA responds with, "The people call the arresting officer." The bailiff escorts Officer Mark Cooper to the stand. The officer sits down.
"Please stand. Raise your right hand," the clerk says. The officer does as told, "Do you promise that the testimony you shall give in the case before this court shall be the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, so help you, God?"
"I do," the officer says.
"Please state your first and last name," the clerk says.
"Mark Cooper," the officer replies.
"You may be seated," the clerk finishes.
"Please spell your last name for the record," the reporter orders. The officer does.
The DA stands back up. "Officer, where do you work?"
"I have worked at the Mystreet Police Department for just over 5 years now," he replies.
"Were you on duty on the morning of July 20th?"
"Yes. I was at the station and had just started my shift when the call came."
"Did you answer the call?"
"Yes, I then got my team together and we went to the cafe."
"What did you find when you arrived at the cafe?"
"We found people standing outside looking panicked, I had one of my men try to calm them down."
"Please tell us what happened after this."
"Well, me and the rest of my men went inside to find Ms. Kala Howlett crying over the body with blood all over her hands. She was mumbling about how this wasn't supposed to happen and that she didn't mean to do this to him.
I went over and handcuffed her. We brought her back to the station where she refused to talk. Then her lawyer, Jessica Pheonix, came and talked to her. They seemed close. After that, I went back to the crime scene where our top investigator, Aphmau Shalama, was looking over the scene.""Do you see Ms. Kala here in this room?"
"Yes, she is sitting at the defendant table in the orange jumpsuit, handcuffed."
"Did you find any weapons on the scene?"
"Yes, there was a gun on the scene."
"Your Honor, I would like to have this gun marked aspeople's exhibit number one and ask that it be admitted into evidence." She hands the gun in an evidence bag to the clerk who puts a sticker on it.
"Does the defense have any objection?" the judge asks.
"No, Your Honor," I say.
"The gun will be admitted as People's exhibit number one," the judge says.
The DA turns back to the officer and asks, "Was there anything unusual about the gun?"
"Yes, the safety was on when we found it," he said.
"Can you please tell the jury what the safety of a gun is?" The DA asks.
"Yes, it is a mechanism that can help prevent the accidental misfire of a gun. When the safety is off, the gun can accidentally go off."
"I have no further questions."
"Does the defense wish to ask any questions?" the judge asks.
I stand up and say, "Yes, Your Honor." I walk over and stand in front of the stand, I stare directly in his eyes and ask, "You say the man was dead, correct?"
