Aphmau's P.O.V

The clerk looks at the paper and says...
"The jury finds the defendant not guilty."

Yes! Kala isn't guilty! Kala has the biggest smile on her face ever.

"The jury is thanked and excused. The court is adjourned," the judge says banging her gavel. Everyone leaves the courtroom. Kala turns to me and gives me a huge hug.

"Thank you, Jess, I don't know what I would have done without you," she tells me on the verge of tears.

"It was no trouble at all, just don't do anything like that again, okay," I tell her. She nods in reply. I start to put all of my papers in my briefcase. Time for it to go into my closet again. I look to my left to see Judge Hailey walking over. I turn and smile at her.

She stands in front of me and says, "Good to have you back in the courtroom, Jessica Phoenix. You never cease to amaze me," Judge Hailey says.

"It's great to be back in court, Judge Hailey. You were as amazing as ever," I tell her.

"You're too kind. Now if you excuse me, I have another trial in the next room over," she tells me before leaving. I hear the clicking of heels behind me and I turn around to see the DA coming over. I smile and say, "You did a great job. For a second there I thought I was going to lose this case."

She blushes before saying, "Thanks, this is my first case."

"I could tell," I reply. I stick out my hand and say "I'm Jessica Phoenix."

SHe shakes my hand while in shock and says, "I-I'm Riley Gorden."

"Nice to meet you. Now if you excuse us, I have to make sure that Kala gets her belongings back," I say. Mrs. Gorden leaves the courtroom. I look over at Kala to see her changed and with her belongings.

"I'm ready to go Jess. But, before I go I have one question for you," Kala tells me.

"Okay, what is it?" I ask.

"Why did you leave and are you coming back?" she questions

"I can't tell you why I left, but I can tell you this: Bad things will happen if I am spotted with you. I cannot go back, I'm sorry," I say seriously to her. She gives me one final hug, then she leaves. My sense it is just me here my clone comes in. She merges with me and I take on her form, clothes and all. My briefcase turns invisible. I walk out of the courtroom and out to my car. I need to go to the police station and see if there is anything else I can do to help.

I drive down and go inside. I go to the desk and say that I need to see Cheif William Gram. I get told that he is in his office. I go to his office and knock on the door. "Come in," I hear him say. I walk in and go over to his desk. "What do you need Detective Shalama?"

"I was wondering if there was anything that you needed me to do?" I ask.

"Well, there is a break-in/murder on 25th street. The suspect needs to be questioned after the scene is investigated," he tells me.

"I will go do that," I say before leaving. I go out to my car and head to the scene on 25th street.

Once I make it there I see that there are people looking in, trying to see what happened. I head into the house and go to the family room. I see the outline of a person, by the looks of it about 5'1", presumably female by the way it is outlined. I look around for any indications of struggle, which there are none. There is a broken vase next to the body which probably fell out of her hand. I ask if there is anything else and an officer tells me that there is a set of twins, one boy and one girl, hiding in the boy's closet and won't come out for anyone. I head up the stairs and go into the boy's room. I see a bullet hole near the bed. I go over to the closet and knock softly and say, "Hi. My name is Detective Aphmau Shalama but you can call me Aph. Can you please come out so we can help you?"

"You aren't going to hurt us?" a little voice asks.

"Of course not I just want to protect you," I tell it. I see the door open and two kids, around the age of 4-5, standing there. The girl has a small cut on her forehead that she has a shirt pressed against. The boy looks panicked, yet relieved that I am not going to hurt them. "Why would you think that I would hurt you?"

"Because the mean person hurt mommy," the girl says tearing up. I hug them both and pick them up. I carry them downstairs and out the front door. They look scared at all the people around. I whisper to them to put their heads against my shoulder. I tell the officer from earlier that I am going to take them to the station. he replies that there are car seats in the back row of my car. I put them into the seats and get into the driver's seat.

"Where are we going?" asked the boy.

"To the police station so I can give my report. I will then see if I can take you to my house to get cleaned up and get some food. But first, tell me your names," I reply.

"Justin," the boy says.

"That means that you are just, lawful and fair," I tell him, "And what about you?"

"Divina," the girl says.

"That means you are a divine one. Now let's go to the station," I say, driving off.

After a 15 minute drive, we made it to the station. I took the kids out of their seats. They held my hands as we walked in. An officer came up to me and told me that The suspect is in Questioning Room B. I lead the kids there and told them to go in the door to the left. I made sure that the chief had them comfortable before going into the room.  I walk over to the man and sit across from him. He smirked at me and said, "They said they were sending in the big guns, and they sent you, a small pathetic girl."

"Your not the first to underestimate me. Now what is your relationship with the person you killed? Neighbor, girlfriend, fiance, wife."

"Why would I answer that?"

"Because you have a nice nose, and I'd hate to break it."

"Like you could do anything but tap my nose."

I calmly walk around the table and spin his metal chair towards me. I quickly punch his nose and kick him where the sun don't shine. I turn his chair back to its origional position and calmly sit back down and say, "Answer the question."

"She was my wife. The kids are ours. And I killed her because she did one thing wrong. She asked about the scar on my arm."

"Thank you." I then walk out and into the next room. I get the kids and ask the chief, "Can I take them home with me?"

"Yes you may, here is the paperwork" he tells me. I quickly fill it out and hand it back to him. I smile and grab the kids' hands. We walk out to the car and get in. We then head to my house.

Once we get there I bring them inside. I see two big boxes next to the stairs. I tell the kids to go on the couch and scare Katelyn. I hear them yell BOO and Katelyn yell. She then comes in and asks, "Who are they and why are they in our house?"

"Their mom was murdered by their dad last night. I have been the only one they trust, so they are staying with us for a while. I have filled out the paperwork. They are legally my children. They will stay in my room with me," I tell her like this happens every day.

She nods and helps me bring the boxes of their stuff up to my room. She then helps me rearrange so it fits nicely. I go down and bring the kids up to my bathroom. I give them both a bath and change them into their pajamas. I then bring them back down and cook dinner. We eat then head to bed.
