Seraph

Ducked down on the ground, all I can see at black boots running everywhere. A few of them stop in front of me and Melody. There are probably some by Oliver and Aurelie as well. Someone pulls Melody's arm off me and ties my hands behind my back, while someone else pushed a rag in my face. I can't breathe. The rag must have a drug in it. The scent is too strong and I am running out of air. It is so sweet. I'm out of time. I hear Oliver fall first, then Aurelie. Then Melody falls on me. I'm the last one holding on. I'm not going to last. I can't do this anymore. The last thing I remember is the sickly sweet smell that will haunt me for a long time.

When I finally wake up, my first thought is that I need to get that sickly sweet smell out of my system. The second is that I need to find Melody. Again. That's when everything comes back to me. I jerk up, trying to get into a seated position. But I'm tied down, so I can't. Turning as much as I can, I look down at my watch. 5:00 pm on the same day. Okay. So I've been out for four hours. This table is so hard. And cold. Gazing around, I see a camera in the corner of the room and a bunch of machines pushed to the side of the room.

Suddenly, my bindings are released. I quickly scramble off the examination table and look over myself. I notice a few small bandages on my arms. They must have had me hooked up to those machines for tests while I was out. Automatically, I go and check the door. Can't say I'm surprised to find it locked. I spend my time pacing the room, with a few breaks in between where I sit on the table. It feels like years have passed before anything happens.

I startle at a hidden speaker when a bell chimes. A man comes on saying, "You all must be wondering where you are. We can't tell you that. What we can tell you, though, is that you are here to help us achieve a greater society." He pauses in his speech, probably expecting cheers. He continues on whether they come or not. "Join us. You could be legends, instead of the innocent children that the world will fear when they learn about you.

Your doors have been unlocked. Outside is a common room that all your rooms are connected to. We will give you time to decide. Proper beds will be brought in when you are not in your rooms. Feel free to explore the compound."

With that finally message, the man leaves us and I race for the door. Throwing it open, I find everyone standing in their doorway. We stare at each other, no longer sure what to do.

I sigh, breaking the silence. "Might as well put it out there then."

And I light a flame in my hand.
