We get back on to the shore or whatever you would call the land by the bayou and Micah suggested we go and stay and one of his friends houses. She lives right off the water and she has an extra room that we can sleep in.
"Oh Chelsea's place?" Laine questioned, "doesn't she have a fire pit?"
"Yea we can go make a fire and hangout for a bit" he said.
"Does Chelsea know we're coming?" I ask.
"No I'll give her a call now" Micah says.
He takes out his phone and walks a few feet away and begins to talk to whom I assume is Chelsea. I wasn't trying to listen in on his conversation but I ended up hearing pieces here and there.
"Laines really hitting it off with a friend of mine and she loves the bayou"
"No no no it's way different I can feel there chemistry without even trying"
After saying the second bit I heard, he looked over at Laine and I who happened to be looking at one another at the moment.
"Chelsea they are like staring into each others eyes. I swear it's like I'm watching a movie" he says.
Then he got very quiet as if he knew I could hear him.
"Hey Laine!" Micah yelled, "Chelsea says stop staring at her and just kiss her already"
Laines face turned red as a big smile grew on his face. Within seconds Laines face was in his hands. He shakes his head,
"I'm sorry he's like this"
"Why are you sorry?" I ask, "I've known him for a while I think he'll always be like this"
I find myself looking into his eyes and being drawn closer to him. I think he felt it too. It was the perfect moment to kiss him.... until Micah walked up.
"Alright everything's good to gooo.... did I just interrupt something?" He says.
"Nope" we both say in unison scratching our heads.
"Oh man I did" he says, "uh go ahead and continue. I'll go wait in the truck" Micah says running away.
Laine and I sat there for a moment in silence.
I look up at the truck and see Micah watching us from in the truck while eating.
"You know he's watching us right?" I giggle.
"What is he eating?" Laine asks.
"I don't know but I'm hungry so let's go find out" I say getting up.
I grab his hand and start running to the truck.
"Whatcha eating" I ask getting into the truck.
Once Laine got a look at what is was he immediately started laughing.
"Micah, that chocolate bar is sooooo old"
"I'm hungry so I'm not sure I care" Micah admits.
After he finished the chocolate bar he drove us to Chelsea's. She was outside when we pulled up.
"Is this sheree?!" She asked with excitement, "oh my god you're so pretty!"
"She's beautiful" Laine said while putting his arm around me before I could thank her for the compliment.
I feel a blush flushing over my cheeks.
"Hey are you down with a bonfire tonight?" Micah asks Chelsea.
"Yea but we'd need to go to the store for lighter fluid" she says as if she were planning something.
"Micah come here" she says.
She pulls him aside and they whisper for a brief moment while giggling.
"I really did mean it when I said you're beautiful" Laine says.
"Thank you" I begin, "for what it's worth you are very handsome yourself"
I look at him for a minute and smile.
"Alright love birds we have to get lighter fluid but my car is out of gas, so Laine we're gonna have to take your truck"
Me and Laine look at each other in confusion.
"Are we all goin?" He asked.
"Yea" Micah chimes in, "sheree is just gonna have to sit on your lap, you okay with that"
"That's her decision not mine" Laine says looking at me.
I didn't know what to say and I began to panic when,
"I don't mind"
Came out of my mouth like word vomit.
"Cool let's go" Chelsea said.
We all get into the truck and admittedly I enjoyed sitting on his lap. It was as though I was meant to be with him and like we'd been doing this for years. I felt connected with him in a way I didn't understand.
When we got back to the house we ordered some pizza and built the bonfire. The bonfire was warm but i was still a little cold. Laine must have noticed because he ran inside and got me a small blanket. He was perfect. I looked over at Micah and Chelsea who were very obviously flirting and into one another.
"Are they a thing or is this new?" I asked Laine.
"They're a thing" he says, "it's not official or anything though"
Laine and I talk for a while, and by talk I mean flirt a lot. It was an amazing feeling getting to know this great guy who's not only a gentleman and a sweet kind hearted person but who is also great looking. He's the whole package and so much more. Micah and Chelsea decided they want to go to bed. Or at least that's what they told us. They walk inside and I notice them sitting by the window watching us but they've been doing stuff like that for a while so I didn't feel the need to mention it.
"Do you wanna play some music?" Laine asks with innocence.
"I'd love too" I say with a smile.
He runs inside and grabs a guitar.
He comes back out and moves his chair closer to mine when I hear a faint squeak.
"I think they're listening to us" I chuckle.
"They probably are" he says, "they saw me grab my guitar"
He takes a minute to tune the guitar.
"Do you know all of the words to the song I was hummin earlier?" He asks.
"Yea I think so" I reply.
He begins to strum the guitar and started singing.
"Blue as the water,
Bright as the sky,
Deep as the river,
I get lost in those eyes.
Just like the sun rising,
The stars in the night,
She shines through the dark and lights up my life"
I joined in.
"Magnolias blooming in the soft southern breeze,
That bayou moon coming up over the trees,
Cypress wind singing a sweet melody,
My Louisiana lady next to me"
While we were singing I felt a warmth within my heart that I have NEVER felt before. I knew right then in there I'm not leaving Louisiana.
After we finished singing he set down his guitar and we sat in silence for a brief moment. His chair was in front of mine and still very close. I looked up at him and we made immediate eye contact. I felt my heart begin to race but I was as calm as I think I've ever been. I think we both got lost in the moment because the next thing I knew we were leaning in. It was slow and pure. Once our lips locked it was like we were in sync. We weren't off I single beat. When we pull away I felt pure bliss. It was silent until,
"That was..." Laine began.
"Woah" I continue.
We sit there for a few minutes when I hear a faint yawn.
"You tired?" I ask a sleepy Laine.
He nodded his head in silence.
"Common sleepy head lets go lay down" I say grabbing his hand.
"But we gotta put out the fire" he says in his sleepy voice.
He sounds so adorable when he's sleepy.
"I'll take care of it, common" I say pulling him towards the house, "why don't you go to the room and change into something more comfortable and I'll meet you in there"
"Okay" he says before kissing my forehead.
It made me smile. Knowing even when he's tired he'd go out of his way to make sure everything's taken care of. I put out the fire and made my way back into the room to find Laine sleeping. Once I got dressed into some sweats Chelsea lent me I got into bed and Laine immediately began to snuggle me. It was perfect. I fell asleep within seconds. It's as if sleeping is easier when I'm with him.
