*Y/N POV*

Makayla looked into the mirror, finishing up her makeup. Your phone buzzed.

"Who is that," Makayla asked, almost mocking you.

"Just a friend," you pulled your phone close to your face, careful to not let Makayla see. It was Joji. Her ex. You couldn't help it. He was so dreamy, and now he was single. Maybe you were so wrong for this, but you couldn't tell. It felt right.

"Just a friend my ass. You're blushing," she said in almost a sing-song voice.

"I think it's best to keep this low-key right now," you shoved your phone onto your lap and shrugged it off.

"Keep it from me," she asked, obviously shocked.

"From everyone," you stood up off the side of the tub. She always annoyed you. She acted like you two were close, but you just put up with her for Jay, your best friend. He really liked her, and you were his wingman. As always.

"Even Jay," she smacked her lips together. "Maybe it IS Jay..."

"No," you laughed. "Never. Jay is great and all, but we're not like that."

"I think Jay's cute," Makayla sighed.

Finally, kickstart the disastrous relationship and book it before it got tough, "he thinks you're really cute, too."

"Duh," she giggled. "Let me tell you a secret." She turned to face you in the small bathroom. She began to whisper, "every guy thinks I'm cute."

"Speak of the devil," you said, fake looking at my phone. "It's Jay! He wants to meet up! I'll catch up with you later, um.." shit. you forgot her name. What was it? Who was it? Fuck. "Let's meet up for coffee later."

"Yeah, great," she smiled.

You grabbed the doorknob. You went to hurry out before you remember the pact you made with Jay. Eye for an eye. Meaning, you got his back, and he had yours. Even if that meant actually being nice to this girl. That means knowing her name. You sighed, "hey, do you want me to tell Jay you said he was cute."

"Yes," she squealed. "It would be nice to get out there after that boring guy, George! He was so boring! Oh my- oh wait. We were on about Jay!" Her blonde hair swished as she jumped with excitement. "Let him know I think he's cute, but like... gas me up, you know?"

"Of course, I got you," you smiled. You pulled out your phone and pulled up Jay's number. "Oh and how do you spell your name?"

"M-A-K-A-Y-L-A," she grinned from ear to ear.

"Just making sure it wasn't some weird spelling," you sent the message 'MAKAYLA' to Jay. You could give him context as to how it was to remember her name, later.

"Thank you," she gave you a hug. You turned to the doorknob. Finally, you could get out. Your phone vibrates as you shut the door. You look down at it:

Joji: what about her?

You take a deep breath. You want to slam your face into the wall. Why? Why? Why?

Me: what?

That was dumb. Play it off as clueless. You'd been wondering about Joji for three years, now. You finally get him, but of course you'd fuck it up by bringing up his ex he can't get over. Jay better appreciate this...

"CUTE," Jay asked, irritated. "All she said was cute?!"

"Jay, calm down," you rolled your eyes. He found you at the cafe, mid studying.
