TIL THE END OF THE LINE (Bucky & Steve)

Steve is about to leave to return the infinity stones.

"Don't do anything stupid til I get back" Steve says to his best friend has they share a hug.

A smile appeared on Bucky's face. He remembers saying the same to Steve before he went to war.

"How can I? You're taking all the stupid with you" Steve smiles too but it doesn't reach his eyes.

That's when Bucky knows Steve is hiding something.

Reality dawns on Bucky that this is some sort of goodbye hug.

Bucky doesn't understand. What could Steve have planned?

The truth hit James Buchanan Barnes HARD

Peggy

He's going back to be with Peggy Carter.

Sure he knew Steve really liked her

Maybe even loved her

But they were best friends

Brothers even

After everything that just happened

Steve would really leave him alone?

Bucky growled deep in his throat and grabbed Steve wrist tightly. He dragged the blonde away from the others so no one would hear.

He then spun to face him and desperately looked into the blue eyes. "Tell me it isn't true"

"Buck I don't k-"

Bucky grabbed his shoulders tight

"Don't lie to me, Steven"

Steve's eyes snapped up to his friends. He hadn't heard Bucky yell like that in a long time.

"I know what you planned on doing. What the hell Steve!?"

Steve's eyes saddened "Bucky it's not what you think" he tried to calm his friend down but was failing.

"Not what I think?" He laughs but it sounds broken and tired "So your not going back in time to be with Peggy?"

The blonde gets tongue tied and Bucky knows he's 100% correct with his statements.

"After saving the whole world and getting your  friends back, you wanna leave? Did Stark's and Natasha's deaths mean nothing? They DIED so WE could live."

Steve's body stiffened his eyes narrowed "I never wanted anyone to die Bucky"

"But they did! That's on all of us!"

Bucky took a deep breath "We just got each other back. You're the only family I have left Steve."

Steve sighed "you don't understand Bucky. I need her"

"And not me" Bucky's voice was shaky and small.

The betrayal is deep

And

Cuts like a knife

Steve steps closer "No, Buck of course not"

The blonde fumbles his words

Bucky laughs but it's broken

So different from the glorious laugh

Steve is used to

"I thought it was you and me til the end of the line. I guess I was wrong." A tear slide down his cheek.

Steve's world was rocked at those words

"Bucky!"

It came out like a whimper.

"It's pretty clear you don't need me"

He turns and begins to walk away

"No please! Bucky please! I do need you!Please!"

"Funny way of showing it, Rogers"

Behind him stood Sam and Clint

And they both heard everything
